Mechanical Engineering Technician

The mechanical workshop is an integral part of the Radiotherapy Service within the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre at Glan Clwyd Hospital. Its primary purpose is to design, develop, and manufacture specialist bespoke patient treatment aids, immobilisation devices, and medical accessories to assist in accurately locating patients undergoing radiotherapy.
This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to work with the Chief Mechanical Engineer, focusing on the design, development, and support of bespoke products.
Previous experience in a clinical environment is desirable but not essential. Support and training are provided, offering excellent career prospects.
The successful candidate will be appraised annually and supported in developing their knowledge and skills.
Main duties of the job
1. Design, develop, and manufacture bespoke patient treatment aids and devices for the Radiotherapy Service and other clinical areas.
2. Create detailed technical drawings and 3D models using CAD software.
3. Manufacture prototypes and final products using workshop equipment and techniques such as 3D printing, manual machining, and fabrication.
4. Design and fabricate precision tools for manufacturing prototypes and products using manual machining and grinding techniques.
5. Conduct testing and evaluation of manufactured products to ensure safety and functionality.
6. Collaborate with clinical staff to understand needs and provide technical support.
7. Ensure compliance with international standards when evaluating and selecting solutions.
Knowledge of Welsh is desirable; applications in Welsh are welcomed and will be treated equally.
