Job Title: Teaching/Learning Support Assistant
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30-15:30 (Term Time)
A primary school in Shoreham is seeking a Learning Support Assistant to join their team for an immediate start. This role requires an experienced individual who can support children with special educational needs (SEN) both in small groups and 1:1 settings. You must have a clear understanding of the challenges children with SEN face, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, and behaviour that can be challenging. The ideal candidate will be patient, adaptable, and proactive in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and thrive in the school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN, ensuring they can access and engage with their learning
* Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of children with ASC, ADHD, and behavioural challenges
* Work collaboratively with teachers and the SENCo to implement tailored learning strategies
* Build positive relationships with pupils, helping them develop confidence, resilience, and social skills
* Assist with transitions and daily routines to create a structured and supportive environment
* Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour, contributing to planning and interventions
Essential Experience/Attributes:
* Proven experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ASC, ADHD, and challenging behaviour
* A solid understanding of the impact of SEN on learning and behaviour, with the ability to demonstrate effective strategies
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team
* A DBS check registered on the update service or a willingness to obtain one
* Patience, flexibility, and a proactive approach to supporting pupils' individual needs
