Building Control Surveyor (Class 2a)
Salary and grade: £36,032 - £48,530 per year, Grade 5/6

About the role and what we’re looking for
This role will administer building regulations, the Building Act and other associated legislation and will assist the Principal Building Control Officer with service plan implementation, meeting service standards and performance targets.
Main duties and responsibilities
• to validate, examine and determine applications submitted under building regulations and associated legislation in line with Class 2A registration
• to carry out site inspections to ensure compliance with building regulations and other relevant legislation in line with Class 2A registration
• to record detailed and accurate records within the services’ computerised systems
• to provide professional advice to applicants, agents, members and all stakeholders on all matters related to building control in line with Class 2A registration
• to instigate enforcement procedures, preparing reports and statements to the council’s solicitor and appearing in court as a prosecution witness as required
• to carry out inspections of dangerous structures, taking appropriate action
• to promote and encourage use of the Local Authority Building Control Service, including associated products and business partners
• to exercise and promote a high level of customer satisfaction
• working with the Building Control Team Leader and Business Development Officer to assist in the development and improvement of this competitive service
• other duties the Building Control Team Leader considers appropriate.
About you
Your essential skills, knowledge and experience
• minimum Class 2A registration with the Building Safety Regulator
• minimum 2years experience working in building control either within Local Government or the private sector
• able to provide readily understood professional advice to a wide range of recipients
• to maintain a level of competency to deal with a constantly changing legislation, building techniques and role of building control within a competitive environment
• sound knowledge and understanding of building control, legislation and construction
• IT experience in Windows, including office, excel, plus email and internet
• able to project manage
• working knowledge and understanding of health and safety issues and good practice
Your essential qualifications
• minimum Class 2A registration with the Building Safety Regulator
• working towards full chartered membership of RICS, CABE or equivalent
• BSc (Hons) Degree in Building Control or a similar related degree in construction/ surveying
• hold a current valid driving licence
• own and provide a well-maintained vehicle to perform duties
• able to work out of normal working hours to meet specific deadlines
Additional essential qualifications to achieve Grade 6
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in building control
• Experience of dealing with dangerous structures and contraventions of The Building Regulations / enforcement
If you have the following experience or qualifications – it’s a bonus
• Level 4 CIOB Diploma in Public Service Building Control
• Level 5 CIOB Diploma in Public Service Building Control
