An exciting opportunity has arisenfor the post of a Consultant Psychiatrist in Forensic Psychiatry in Medium Security.This post offers an opportunity to join a highly motivated team in DewnansCentre (medium security, Langdon Secure hospital).
The Secure service consists ofthree arms- Inpatient Service, Community Forensic Service, and the CriminalJustice and Liaison Service. The Secure service is a regional service coveringDevon, Plymouth, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist in theService, you will access a range of support to hone or develop clinicalleadership skills useful for career development. The medical group boasts ofdiverse, talented and outward looking clinicians. There is a culture ofopenness, innovation and collaborative practice.
As a clinical leader in theService, you will be involved in decision-making, and taking the lead onpatient-care for the population we serve. You will be a stakeholder in thesmooth running of overall clinical care in the Service. This involves makingrecommendations on admissions, clinical pathway, Service design anddevelopments. In line with the goal of caringfor patients closer home, one key aim is to reduce the use of out-of-area bedthrough collaboration with other Forensic services in the Southwest region.

Main duties of the job
This post offers an opportunity todevelop, and provide clinical leadership for the Service. You will join theSecure service on-call rota which has middle and junior grades on-call systemembedded in it. You will be a part of a diverse and dynamic RC/consultant groupof the Secure service that forms the clinical leadership group of the Service.The Service is commissioned by the South West Provider Collaborative (SWPC),which allows you to contribute and influence regional strategic developments.
The post-holder role includes:
Providingclinical leadership within the team, across the Service and region.
Actingas responsible clinician for patients under their care.
Attendanceat team and service meetings in line with job plan.
Role incompletion of access assessments.
Role inconsultation/training and pathway advice.
Role inCare planning and treatment formulation, including guidance on evidence-basedtreatment and effectiveness.
Liaisonand collaborative working with other services/agencies.
MentalHealth Act and Mental Capacity Act implementation.
Multi-disciplinary,multi-agency and partnership working.
Role in specialist forensic risk assessment, formulationand mitigation.
Other roles that may develop as part of care forthe cohort.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full Registration with the General Medical Council.
* To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post.
* Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview.
* Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.
* CCT/CESR in forensic Psychiatry.
Management
* Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and managers.
* Awareness of NHS management and funding arrangements.
* Management training / experience.
* Experience of involvement in service development.
Teaching and Supervision
* Experience of teaching undergraduates and postgraduates.
* Evidence of additional teaching skills.
* Experience as a lecturer or supervisor.
* Experience in Clinical Supervision.
* Evidence of ability to exercise leadership in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Ability to work collaboratively with other clinical teams.
* Evidence of new ideas in service delivery.
* A track record of implementing service initiatives.
Experience
* Prior experience working in an Inpatient Mental Health Team.
* Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings, especially the community.
* Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance.
* Evidence of development of special interest in Inpatient & Forensic based Psychiatry.
Research
* Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice.
* Aptitude for and practical experience of research.
