The Data and Platform Engineering team are the foundation for the Data Office function. Responsible for designing, building, and maintaining PfP's data platform, we extract data from source, transform it into a usable format, load it into consumer models and marts and build and manage the infrastructure to do all this work.
Data Engineering are transforming the way PfP consumes data, transitioning from On Premise to Google Cloud. This is an exciting time to join a growing business function and gain hands-on experience working with market-leading technology such as BIG Query, Looker, Data Flow, and more.
More about your role
The Data Engineering Manager is a leading role in our data engineering team, responsible for all aspects of the data products under your stewardship from concept through to decommission. Working in an agile framework, you will ensure that resources are aligned to manage your product backlog and the team's outputs are of the highest quality, meeting development standards and complying with governance policy. The role will have a significant input into the strategic direction and ways of working for the Data Engineering function.
Leading a team of 5 – 8 Data Engineers, you will be responsible for their line management and ongoing development.
The role would be suitable for someone coming from a Data Engineering background who has led Engineers in the past at Lead / Principal level, although this is not a requirement. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of data concepts including Data Modelling, ETL / ELT, Data Warehousing, Data User Requirements, Quality Assurance, CI/CD and more. You will be expected to get into detailed discussions with Engineers and Architects, challenging and directing to make sure that solutions are fit for purpose. This is not just a team/project manager role; you need to be able to get into the details of a product/problem.
As a Data Engineering Manager, you will:
1. Oversee all aspects of product development.
2. Be a primary point of contact with Stakeholders and Product Owners.
3. Oversee estimating and billing for all resources used.
4. Provide timely and effective communication on progress or issues.
5. Actively manage all risks, issues, and key decisions for your products.
6. Identify and understand business requirements / strategic business drivers.
7. Ensure quality and governance processes are followed and PfP standards are met.
8. Lead, coach and develop a team to consistently deliver the highest standards of service required by the business.

You have a proven track record of success within a Data Engineering function. You are proactive, organised, approachable and detail-focused. You are great at finding solutions to problems, taking a pragmatic approach, with a constant drive to move projects towards a successful conclusion.
You are great with people with strong line management skills, promoting, developing, and supporting your team to ensure they are engaged, happy, and performant. You have excellent communication skills and can document, present, and interact at all levels of the business up to Exec level.
Experience & Skills
1. 3+ years Data Engineering Manager or Principal / Lead Engineer with a strong track record.
2. Excellent technical project management with experience of Agile / Scrum.
3. Experienced in the successful delivery of data platforms and data products.
4. Strong understanding of data fundamentals – ETL / Data Warehousing / Data Modelling etc.
5. Experienced with DevOps and Agile – Azure DevOps would be a major plus.
6. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
7. Good understanding of Cloud Data platforms – GCP / Azure / AWS.
