The Electrical Engineering department sits within Operations and is a group of 1000 professionals located around the globe, that delivers critical electrical infrastructure projects in all major solution areas.

My client are growing their UK based team due to demand and are now seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to support a variety of projects within the UK and wider EMEA region.
They are open to applications from candidates who are within the Glasgow, London, Manchester, or Birmingham city areas.
You would work hybrid with 3 days per week in office, 2 days from home.
This role will give leadership to their global design teams who produce drawings, SLDs, studies, reports and more. As the Principal Electrical Engineer, you will review and manage the overall design activity, interface with clients and keep the delivery schedule on track. Key solutions you will support include: Solar PV and BESS and other renewables, other power generation projects such as Waste-to-Energy plant design, Data Centre design as well as supporting the design of grid level infrastructure.
You'll support the solutions with a focus on balance of plant, grid connection, substation design and transmission infrastructure. Your expertise will also inform bids and proposals, as well as the tendering process for EPC contracts. Mentorship and development of their UK based Graduate Electrical Engineers will be a further aspect of the role.
Key Responsibilities
* Complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects. Typically supports multiple projects on complex technical challenges.
* Researches and develops recommendations for equipment and/or materials selection.
* Oversees collection, assimilation, and management of data for engineering work.
* Prepares and reviews complex engineering calculations.
* Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
* Serves as a technical specialist, providing consultation and guidance to project teams.
Minimum Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
* Chartered Engineer (or working towards).
* Proven track record leading a team of engineers.
* Sound understanding of UK Grid Code and relevant regulations, with significant experience on UK based electrical engineering projects.
* Experience with High Voltage (HV) electrical engineering design.
Desired Experience
* Experience in the design of HV substations. Ideally in the DNO/TO space, including:
* AIS or GIS at 132kV or above.
* Knowledge of Overhead Line and/or underground cables.
* Underground cable sizing and understanding of routing methods/considerations.
* Familiarity with Auxiliary and backup generation techniques.
* Transformer sizing.
* Knowledge on clearance requirements.
* Sizing of equipment such as CT/VT and surge arrestors.
* Understanding of Earthing requirements.
* Familiarity with codes and standards such as G81 or TP141 would be an advantage.
* Familiarity with Power System Studies and aligned connection capability requirements at DNO and TO levels.
* Experience performing Power System Studies (DiGSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, ETAP or similar).
* Experience interfacing with DNO/TO or NESO and confident engaging with clients.
* Protection and Control design experience.
* Knowledge of construction & constructability practices & principles.
* Intermediate knowledge of procurement & contract administration.
* Experience in the technical scoping and costing of design focused tender proposals.
