Siemens Gamesa is looking for four new apprentices to join our offshore wind construction team, with the opportunity to lead to a unique career that could take you across the world.
As an apprentice wind turbine technician, you will complete a level 3 qualification (NVQ equivalent). The title of the course is: Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician. You will be trained in all aspects of the wind turbine generator construction process working alongside mentors in logistics, pre-assembly, installation and commissioning teams.
Year 1 of your apprenticeship will be full time study, 40 hours a week, based at a college/provider in Hull, as well as undertaking Wind Turbine training both in Hull and around the UK, with occasional days working alongside our SGRE colleagues in various UK locations. There is potentially Wind Turbine training in Europe, which may fall in the first or second year.
Years 2 - 4 will be a combination of time completing NVQ's for the apprenticeship, working with SGRE colleagues locally and on offshore construction projects, this is entirely dependent on where Siemens Gamesa are currently involved in Wind farm construction projects.
Responsibilities
Some of your key tasks will include but not be limited to:
* Working at sea, on a "Jack up" installation vessels or service operation vessels during the projects
* Putting newly installed wind turbines into operation and ensuring they are fault free before handing over to our customers
* Troubleshooting and repair of complex electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components
* Completion of critical safety and quality documentation
What You Need to Make a Difference

Logistical requirements
• Be at least 17 years old by September 25
• Ideally reside within 35 minutes' drive of Hull, East Yorkshire
• Hold a full UK driving license (or working towards) & Passport
• Physically fit and capable to pass an Offshore medical exam
• Have a head for heights
• Be prepared to travel and work away from home, typically on a 2 week on, 2 week off basis, or longer.
Personal requirements
* Strong social skills and desire to work in close knit teams
* Have enthusiasm in abundance as well as long-term commitment to the apprenticeship and to the business
* Have sound manual skills and an interest or ability to work with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems
* Problem solving skills - being methodical, thinking logically and calmly to resolve issues.
* Adaptability and Initiative: Being able to quickly adapt to new situations and demonstrate proactivity throughout your apprenticeship.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Qualifications Required:
Three GCSE's or equivalent at Grade 4/C or above which must include Math, English Language and Science. Level 2 ICT is an advantage. Functional Skills Math and English qualifications will be included in the apprenticeship program if apprentices are unable to evidence the required grades.
How the recruitment process works

From there shortlisted candidates will have to pass a short, online level 2 engineering exam and potentially a pre-assessment. Once reviewed, typically in April shortlisted candidates are invited to join us at our Recruitment Assessment Centre. If you are successful here, you will be offered an initial four-year fixed term contract of employment subject to you successfully passing:

* A medical and fitness test
* And provide the correct right to work documentation and relevant exam certifications.
