An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced band 5 nurse to join our pre-operative assessment service. Do you have a minimum of 3-4 years band 5 or equivalent experience and are looking for a new challenge in an ever-expanding and growing team? Then pre-op might be for you!
You must be dynamic in your thinking, able to work both autonomously and in a team, and be able to make decisions on the best treatment plans following the NICE guidelines based on the information obtained from your patients.
On appointment, you will be supported with full training and build up to a level whereby you can work independently. In time, you will be sent on a bespoke pre-operative assessment course to complete the appropriate role-specific skills with opportunities to develop. You must be passionate about patient care, flexible and approachable, and have a sound knowledge base on both medical and surgical care. The post holder will be responsible for effectively delivering skilled nursing care to patients using a systemic approach of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating to ensure a high standard of care. The post holder will carry out pre-admission screening of patients ensuring that they are fit for addition to the relevant surgical waiting list.
They will ensure patient care is managed in order that their health is optimized prior to their admission for surgery and any special needs identified and acted upon. If required, supervision and support will be provided by senior staff.
They will identify and manage/report any impact on shifts/workload and staffing levels.
They will proactively engage with patients, relatives, and carers to seek their views, gain agreement, and keep them informed about their treatment and care. Ensuring they are fully informed of proposed treatment plans, are correctly prepared for theatre, and their questions answered, escalating for support if required. They will demonstrate compassion by recognizing and responding to individual needs in a warm, thoughtful, sensitive, and helpful way.
Maintain registration, nursing competencies, and comply with the NMC code of Professional Conduct and related documents.
To be flexible to work within other areas or departments to meet the demands of the trust workforce model and changing service needs.
