Associate Director Highway Engineer
Our client is currently recruiting for a Highways Associate or Associate Director to join their team in St Albans. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in the technical delivery of highway projects and in enhancing highway engineering capabilities at the St Albans office. This individual will collaborate closely with directors and highway specialists across various UK offices to deliver a diverse range of highway sector projects, including major UK trunk road improvements, new bypass and link road schemes, access roads to developments, and realignments associated with bridge replacements.
The successful candidate will be a Chartered Engineer with a recognised engineering institution and possess extensive experience in highway technical design delivery.In addition to strong technical skills, including a thorough understanding of the UK's DMRB and MCHW, the candidate must have excellent communication and interpersonal abilities. They will be client-facing with strong team leadership skills and must be committed to developing the technical skills of junior staff within the group.
This role requires acting as the technical lead for the highways discipline, responsible for the timely delivery of projects to high standards and meeting financial targets. Effective managerial experience and suitable technical expertise are essential.
Responsibilities of the role: - Technical design and delivery of multiple concurrent projects - Undertaking the role of Highways Discipline Manager or Highways Discipline Director - Managing, directing, and training staff while working on projects - Developing relationships with new and existing clients and identifying potential work opportunities - Preparing fee budgets, proposals, and resource requirements for projects - Coordinating with other engineers across regional offices and technical groups - Managing the preparation of calculations, drawings, and other documents, ensuring project control - Liaising with clients on proposals and project work - Specifying and managing site examination and investigation works safely and effectively - Identifying and managing risks to agreed levels for projects under your control
Requirements of the role: - In-depth knowledge of DMRB/MCHW and detailed design experience on road schemes - Strong technical skills across key elements of highways design - Stakeholder liaison experience - Professional qualifications: CEng + MICE and/or MIHT or near-chartered engineer - Essential software: Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD - Alignment, drainage, pavement, road restraint, signs & markings, and lighting design experience - Experience with Design and Build schemes, including construction support
