Senior Engineering Manager – Thermal Systems

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our HVAC team in the design, development, and verification of vehicle heating and cooling systems. In this role, you will provide technical authority, ensure design requirements are met, and manage the integration of systems across various platforms. You will lead a team of 4 engineers, drive continuous improvement, and resolve escalated engineering risks while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a solid background in HVAC engineering (preferably automotive), and a proactive, solutions-driven approach. A degree in Engineering or equivalent experience is required, and the role may involve occasional travel between UK sites.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
1. Lives and role models the company Values and culture at all times.
2. Responsible to ensure all controls (ICFR Internal Controls) identified under their area of responsibility are designed and operating as outlined in the internal controls over financial reporting.
3. Ensure policies and processes are established and adhered to ensure goals and objectives for all regulatory and legal requirements are met including organizational quality, environmental, health & safety programs.
4. Provide technical authority and ownership for the defined areas of expertise, technical specialism, system, and sub-system responsibility.
5. Responsible for the completion of Statements of Work and High Level System Reviews.
6. Ensure effective use of on-shore and off-shore engineers and design partners across all projects to define, deliver and verify design requirements with sign-off through DFMEA, design reviews, vehicle testing and supplier approval processes.
7. Responsible for approving and ensuring that design requirements are captured, DFMEAs and design reviews are planned and executed, and any subsequent actions are managed through a Design Verification Plan to completion and sign-off.
8. Responsible for resolving escalated engineering risks or defining mitigating actions as appropriate in defined areas of responsibility.
9. Ensure common system designs, interfaces and principles are applied consistently across all systems, platforms, and territories. Promote the re-use of parts and modular design philosophies. Define and deliver process and toolchain improvements to benefit the business.
10. Ensure the upfront development and testing of new designs to identify issues and improvements at the earliest opportunity and address them prior to product introduction.
11. Contribute to and promote the application of the Engineering Product Development process and ensure teams demonstrate compliance with the deliverables through design records and documentation.
12. Contribute to and promote the application of the Systems Engineering process and take responsibility for the innovative development, management, and integration of systems across platforms and projects. Ensuring all requirements and specifications are defined, approved, and achieved through sign-off.
13. Responsible for the resolution of all technical issues that arise in defined areas of responsibility. Interface directly with internal and external customers on technical issues and requirements. Ensuring high customer satisfaction through safe, reliable, and fit for purpose designs.
14. Prepare and present technical documentation and papers for review and communication with key stakeholders.
15. Lead the definition of and compliance with relevant internal and international standards, best practice and legislation. In particular responsible for ensuring that design guides, certification requirements and vehicle compliance are defined and fulfilled.
16. Ensure relevant activities are undertaken with internal and external design partners or suppliers to achieve quality, cost and delivery targets for defined areas of responsibility.
17. Responsible for the allocation of resources against projects and work activities and the development of external partnerships to increase capacity and capability.
18. Provide leadership, development, coaching and mentoring for a team of direct reports.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:
19. Experience in a similar Engineering lead position, preferably within the Automotive industry.
20. A self-starter who takes personal pride in all work from start to finish.
21. Willing to travel between UK sites as required.
22. An active interest in vehicle-based technologies and developments.
23. A detailed understanding of vehicle design.
24. Software experience (such as Solidedge) is beneficial, simulation software (Kuli) preferred.
25. Relationship building will come easily, with the ability to influence stakeholders across all levels of seniority.
