This post provides an exciting opportunity to gain experience in the management of patients with acute and chronic leukaemias.
The post holder will work within the leukaemia team based in the Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). Duties will cover all aspects of the care of patients with leukaemias including diagnosis, primary therapy and relapse therapy. Close working with the clinical trials team for management of patients in clinical trials will be expected. The post holder will be encouraged to do research projects/audits for presentations at conferences and for publications.
The job is based in the Bristol Haematology Unit which comprises a 23 bedded in-patient unit and day unit area. There is additionally a large out-patient department and a Teenage and Young Adult Unit within the BHOC.
The post holder will work within the leukaemia team based in the Bristol Haematology Unit. The appointee will attend the weekly leukaemia clinic, leukaemia chemotherapy clinic and will contribute to the diagnostic and therapeutic pathway of new acute leukaemias. The post holder will also be responsible for the review of patients with leukaemia who are undergoing treatment i.e. ambulatory care or attending for emergency review. The Bristol Haematology Unit manages intensive induction and salvage chemotherapy for acute leukaemias. In addition, the unit is a regional referral centre for allogeneic stem cell transplantation and CAR-T therapy.
