Purchaser – ABM Precast Solutions Ltd, Tuxford and EMJ Plastics Ltd, Scunthorpe

ABM Precast Solutions (ABM) manufactures a range of heavy civil engineering precast products at its production facility in Tuxford, North Nottinghamshire. Its principal market is the design, manufacture and supply of reinforced and prestressed concrete products such as parapet walls, bridge beams, and bespoke heavy civil engineering precast elements.
EMJ Plastics Ltd is the UK’s leading manufacturer of GRP Permanent Formwork with over 50 years’ experience in manufacturing GRP Permanent Bridge Deck Formwork. EMJ works alongside major UK construction companies and engineering consultants, supplying our product to over 5000 structures in the UK alone. EMJ’s Permadec panels have been exported throughout the globe and we continue to expand our export markets.
ABM Precast Solutions and EMJ Plastics Ltd is part of the ABM Europe group. Through this alliance, ABM Europe provides support services to ABM Precast Solutions and EMJ Plastics principally in the areas of financial management and engineering.
The Role
ABM PS and EMJ Plastics is seeking an experienced purchaser to join the operations team at ABM and EMJ, which runs all aspects of the manufacturing process. The role will report to the General Manager/Operations Manager and will include the following responsibilities:
1. Purchasing of all materials required for production and operations, such as reinforcing steel, sand and gravel, lifting attachments/inserts, consumables such as oil, lubricants, PPE, etc.
2. Developing strong relationships with key suppliers
3. Plan and execute multiple projects
4. Hiring of any necessary equipment such as tools and plant
5. Using internal Purchasing system to enter and issue all orders and subsequent approval of orders and entering onto accounts system
6. Coordinating with operations staff to develop efficient procurement and stock schedules, to facilitate cost effective buying and timely deliveries
7. Work with Production Supervisor to control and report on workers hours from clock card system and invoices from subcontractors
8. Prepare regular reports for management on purchasing operations and achievement of targets on buying in areas such as price, quality and terms
9. Buying in line with established budgets and reporting against these; managing cost control, as well as terms and conditions of supply
10. Managing with Storekeeper the inventory of stocks and controlling the ordering system to satisfy demand
11. Implementation where required of ISO9001 Quality Control System, such as approved Supplier List
12. Experience of setting up SLA
13. Managing Vending systems, PPE
14. Experience of consignment stock
15. Interfacing with customers/suppliers as required
The Candidate
The firm is seeking to hire someone with the following key attributes:
1. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role, ideally in a similar or related field
2. Good knowledge of the construction sector and the principal components to be bought in this role
3. Excellent computer skills and knowledge of M/S packages
4. Self-starter, with new ideas on how to improve the business through the effective operation of this role
5. Good team player, able to work well with other team members
6. Industry qualification would be an advantage
7. Strong negotiating ability
8. Proven reliability – efficient, results orientated and manages own time well
9. Good problem-solving abilities
10. Flexibility in the role and extra hours if needed
Terms:
Salary £35-40k doe
Leave 24 days per annum + 8 x bank holidays
Travel expenses; travel requirements outside of the plant will be limited, but the company will reimburse expenses on a per mile basis, for use of own vehicle. The candidate may be provided with use of company pool vehicle for external meetings but should own his/her own car to get to work.
Location: Ideally the successful candidate will live within reasonable commuting distance of Tuxford and Scunthorpe.
