The Strategy & Operations (S&O) Lead for International Patient Safety (IPS) will play a critical role as strategic thought partner to the Head of IPS, ensuring alignment of IPS organizational strategy, operating model, functional objectives, and initiatives with the global WWPS framework. As a member of the IPS leadership team, this individual will drive operational business planning, and ensure seamless integration and execution of transformational patient safety strategies across international markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning and Alignment
* Serve as the Chief of Staff and strategic thought partner to the Head of IPS /IPS LT to set the organizational direction and strategy for IPS
* Ensure IPS vision, mission, and strategic areas of focus align with WWPS, DD and enterprise priorities and targets
* Effectively leverage DD/WWPS S&O operating principles, processes, tools to ensure consistency / alignment / cohesion across WWPS SLT / IPS LT / local markets.
* Lead annual functional objective setting; collaborate with IPS LT to translate objectives into actionable plans, track / report progress and ensure ongoing risk monitoring / mitigation
* Influence prioritization and purposeful allocation of resources to support IPS organization evolution.
* Drive towards convergence of local and global strategies/ tactical plans where feasible/appropriate, to maximize resource allocation, value realization, and sustainability
* Cultivate strong relationships with Patient Safety Leadership and cross-functional stakeholders to advance IPS strategic priorities and elevate IPS contributions to the organization
Operational Excellence
* Develop and maintain an operational strategy that supports the vision for the IPS leadership team via:
o Business planning and contingency/risk management
o Clear IPS priorities, tactics, KPIs and value realization measures
o Design and delivery of strategic initiatives and projects within IPS
o Talent Management planning process
o Management of the IPS leadership team with seamless flow of communications to optimize awareness, cross-functional collaboration and decision making
o A culture of quality, high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement
* Manage IPS LT engagements, including leadership meetings, functional business reviews, townhalls, minutes and follow up on actions. Ensure IPS LT focus drives the objectives and needs of IPS / WWPS in keeping with DD and BMS objectives.
* Drive budget projections for IPS including headcount evaluation and requests.
* Maintain financial health and continuous implementation of cost savings measures.
* Partner with IPS LT and BCE LT to establish, track and report on KPIs, business outcomes and value realization; identify, escalate, mitigate risks
* Establish and mature resource forecasting / allocation/ measurement methods across IPS to optimize performance.
Strategic Initiatives and Execution Excellence
* Serve as IPS PMO lead, driving purposeful prioritization of IPS projects/resources to support, aligned with IPS and WWPS strategy
* Drive strategic continuous improvement/innovation initiatives and change management to elevate IPS value creation, create efficiencies, and optimize ways of working within and across local market teams, and between local / global PS, in partnership with cross functional stakeholders.
* Drive optimization of processes, systems, tools across local markets and with global; foster a culture of continuous learning and ensure best practices are shared across IPS / WWPS.
* Influence optimization of global processes through infusion of local market perspective in global initiatives
* Facilitate development of clear, cohesive change management, communications, engagement strategy for IPS organization, fostering a culture of change agility and resilience in a dynamic PV landscape
* Support integration efforts when needed, partnering with WWPS Functional Integration Lead, HR, Finance and other stakeholders
Qualifications:
* Education/ Experience:
o Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Life Sciences, Public Health, Business Management). Advanced degree in related discipline preferred.
o Minimum of 10 – 12 years of experience in pharmaceutical industry, with demonstrated experience in managing international operations; experience in pharmacovigilance, or a related field, preferred.
* Knowledge/Skills:
o Strong leadership presence and influencing skills.
o Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing complex projects in a global environment.
o Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
o Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
o In-depth understanding of global and international patient safety regulations, guidelines, and best practices preferred.
o Experience with project management, process improvement, change management methods preferred.
o Experience with managing a functional budget and service providers/vendors.
