The Office of Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) supports the Police and Crime Commissioner serving Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. The OPCC provides a link between Hampshire and Isle Wight Constabulary (HIOWC) and the communities they serve through setting the budget and holding the Chief Constable to account in the delivery of an efficient and effective service.
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Data Protection and Risk Officer, who will be responsible for managing our data protection responsibilities alongside our risk management strategy. A highly influential role; this position plays an integral part in providing advice, guidance, and training to all staff in support of the Commissioner.
About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance, you will be responsible for providing ongoing advice and guidance to ensure the organisation is legally and procedurally compliant with data protection legislation and operating within a culture of corporate risk management. You will support the Head of Governance, Risk, and Compliance and the Joint Audit Committee with management information and using your professional judgement, only escalating matters where necessary.
Whilst having no direct line management, you will demonstrate leadership in your responsibilities through positive promotion of data protection and risk management processes to create a culture that considers these themes across the business.
This role will also manage the framework to ensure the organisation reviews, maintains, and updates its' policies and procedures.
The postholder will be required to attend the office in Fareham and other Force sites on a full:time basis.

About You
We are looking for a candidate educated to degree level, or who has substantial comparative workplace experience. You must be experienced and proficient in at least one of the key skill areas (DPO or Risk), and be able to demonstrate the ability to develop the other area.
Ideally the successful candidate will have good professional skills, knowledge and experience across both areas of responsibility. However, applicants should not be deterred if they are stronger in one area as long as a willingness and ability to develop further can be demonstrated.
As a highly organised individual, with a passion for collaborative and partnership working you will have regular contact with the Commissioner, Chief Executive, senior officers and police staff, applying the appropriate level of sensitivity to your audience or subject matter.
You will be required to work professionally and confidently with others, possessing excellent communication skills in order to engage positively with your stakeholders. You will be required to demonstrate this through self:initiated work that promotes all areas of your role to both your internal and external stakeholders.
It is important that you are comfortable working within a political environment in the public sector.
