The Role: On-Call Firefighters have everyday lives and jobs until their alerter sounds and they become professional Firefighters, responding to a range of operational incidents when required. Being a Firefighter is not just about fighting fires. An important part of today's service is fire and road safety prevention, education and safeguarding. When an emergency does occur, our Firefighters are fully trained and equipped to deal with a range of emergencies. On-Call Firefighters make up approximately 90% of emergency cover in the UK, which makes them an invaluable part of our society. What you’ll need to succeed: You must: live or work no more than five minutes from your nearest station be at least 18-years-old at the start of employment, but you can apply before then. You do not need any formal qualifications to apply but you will undertake the NFCC Written tests, which will test both of these subjects.
