Due to the expansion of the service, Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit additional Postural Stability Support Workers (PSSW) within the Healthy Lifestyles Team. As a PSSW, you will support the delivery of the postural stability strength and balance exercise programmes (classes) across the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation footprint. Under the instruction of the Postural Stability Instructor (PSI), you will assist participants to exercise in a safe and effective manner. Please note the advertised hours are shared between two job holders, working 3-hour sessions each per day, over a 5-day service. Therefore, the role requires flexible working to provide support to a number of exercise classes during the week in locations across Torbay and South Devon.
The role includes:
1. Setting up rooms in which to carry out the exercise programme and clearing away at the end of a session.
2. Supporting the PSI in carrying out the programme, correcting participants' technique under the guidance of the PSI, observing for any issues in class, maintaining a safe environment before, during, and after the class, and monitoring participants for any issues, distress, or illness.
3. Providing some exercise demonstrations under the supervision of a PSI.
4. Welcoming, signing in, updating attendance and session records, making telephone calls and follow-ups, planning your own time around exercise sessions, planning and organising straightforward activities, rebooking appointments, and follow-ups of participants; supporting the whole PSI session including the assessment process.
5. Monitoring class participants at all times during the exercise session to ensure participant safety. This requires skills for making ongoing evaluations of the participant's condition and environmental risk factors for class management under the PSI's supervision.
6. Responsible for demonstrating seated exercises and other elements of the PSI class, following planned and detailed instructions under the PSI's supervision and remaining accountable at all times to the PSI.
7. Very occasional Basic Life Support need.
8. Updating attendance and session records on the IT system (client management system), making telephone calls to patients regarding the programme.
9. Ability to travel efficiently around the Bay is important in order to carry out your duties (e.g., Full driving licence and vehicle).
