Job summary
We are looking to appoint a full time (10PA) Specialty Doctor to work in our Community Hospital in Wokingham starting 31st October 2024. The post is sought to provide inpatient community-based care for patients with long term conditions within the West Berkshire Locality at Wokingham Community Hospital, 41 Barkham Road RG41 2RE
The successful candidate will be expected to join the ward medical team of Advanced nurse practitioners and Specialty doctors to provide day to day medical care and review of the patients on Ascot and Windsor Wards under the supervision of Dr Yetunde Oiku, Community based Consultant in Elderly Care. The appointee will also be expected to provide prospective annual leave cover for specialty doctors at our other community hospital wards at Prospect Park Hospital Reading and West Berkshire Community Hospital in Thatcham.
Main duties of the job
Ward work includes the clerking in of new patients transferred from other hospitals and home with arrangement for appropriate investigations as necessary, daily ward review of inpatients, advice to nursing staff on the ward, writing in the medical notes, referral to other specialists when required and completion of discharge paperwork.
The Specialty doctor will be expected to attend consultant ward rounds and multidisciplinary team meetings where patient rehabilitation progress is reviewed and discharge plans are made. The post holder will be directly involved in communication with patients and relatives and able to offer advice to health and social care colleagues regarding rehabilitation on the wards.
The specialty doctor will be expected to make every effort that patients are enabled to reach their rehabilitation goals and work with colleagues to ensure that the care to patients is in accordance with the NSF for Older People and other relevant guidance on good practice.

The department is keen to bring more research opportunities to our department and have established an Elderly Care Research Steering Group. This enables us (amongst other benefits) to coordinate projects, coordinate team members, share learning and strategize for our (research) future. Education and Qualifications
Essential
1. Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration Within 6 months of CCST in (Speciality) at interview date
2. Membership of the Royal College of Geriatric Medicine of the United Kingdom or equivalent

3. Higher degree PhD/ MD submitted/awarded
Clinical Experience, Knowledge & Skills

4. Fully trained in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine
5. Ability to make decisions at consultant level
6. Knowledge of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) and its application

7. Sub-specialty interest & experience in an area of Geriatric Medicine
