This is a new post which will share the provision of general haematology services for the Trust. The appointee will be employed by the Trust and will be based at Maidstone Hospital with some potential scope for clinics at Tunbridge Wells. Clinical Haematology is within the Cancer & Haematology Directorate, forming an integral part of the Kent and Medway Cancer Network. All tumour sites across the Network have been peer-reviewed and are compliant with national standards.
Part time hours will be considered with mock job plan available on request.
Main duties of the job
To provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility. This will include any patients referred to you and cared for you personally or by members of your team, and in addition, any patients of consultant colleagues when you are covering on-call or annual leave.
The role will include participation in clinical and other service activities and developments with the aim to ensuring a high standard of patient care. Also working in close co-operation with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the speciality, to provide high quality healthcare to the Trust's patients and to make a contribution to future thinking about the Trust's strategic direction.
Job responsibilities
To provide a high quality service for haematology patients and excellent laboratory services. This will include participation in running a general (clinical and laboratory) haematological service and participating in the MDMs and on-call rota.
To maintain and further develop BSH level 2 haemato-oncology service for the Trust, including the development of a single multi-disciplinary team and development of the haemato-oncology protocols across the Trust and for the Kent Cancer Network. Candidates will be encouraged to develop a sub-specialist interest to complement those of the haematology team.
To provide out-patient services at one or more sites as required.
To participate in the Trust-wide system supporting clinical governance.

Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
* Full and specialist GMC registration
* CCT (UK trained) or equivalent if trained abroad
* MRCP or evidence of equivalent qualification
* FRCPath (UK) or evidence of equivalent qualifications
* PhD/MSc in Haematology
Clinical Skills
* Wide experience in all aspects of haematology
* Experience of MDT working at senior level
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients at consultant level
* Experience of providing leadership
* Experience working as a consultant
* Experience working with children and young people
Personal Skills
* Communication skills - demonstrates clarity in written/spoken communication
