Job overview
We are looking for individuals to join our team of Food Service Assistants, working in our food service areas catering for patients, staff and visitors. Applicants must be self-motivated, good communicators, and flexible in their working practices. They will be required to work in different hospital settings, such as patient kitchens, dining rooms, and production areas. Therefore, applicants must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and be committed to a high level of customer service.
Catering experience and a basic food hygiene certificate are desirable but not essential, as full training will be given. Applicants will need to be educated to GCSE level at Grade 9 - 4 or equivalent experience. These posts are based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, although working across sites may be required. Full-time and part time positions are available. Working hours may include weekends. Shifts may start at 6 a.m. and end at 8 p.m., and applicants must be able to cover those times.
Main duties of the job
* Assist with food service to patients and staff as required.
* Prepare meal trolleys for regeneration and service.
* Responsible for checking off meal deliveries to ensure correct meal requirements have been received, take action as necessary if any discrepancies.
* Work alongside ward staff to ensure all patients receive appropriate meals.
* Responsible for taking orders and delivery of “Special Meal Requests and ringbacks” as and when required.
* Liaise with Diet Bay/CPU for special diet meals.
* To work in any patient dining room setting and help out on ward service as specific to the area.
* To listen to and where possible resolve any complaints given by customers.
* Responsible for good stock rotation at all times and the placing of orders for stores and call order items.

The Department is also responsible for the food service to staff and visitors through its outlets in dining rooms, vending machines and delicatessen bars. The Catering Department provides training and advice in food hygiene and food service matters to other health professionals within the Trust.
