A leading automation and control systems provider is seeking a Control Systems Engineer to develop and commission bespoke industrial automation solutions. This role is pivotal in designing, programming, and integrating control systems across various industries, including manufacturing, logistics, and machine automation.
You’ll be part of a highly skilled engineering team, working on complex projects that involve PLC programming, HMI development, and industrial network communications. The role includes a balance of office-based software development and onsite commissioning across the UK.
PLC Programming & Software Development
Develop, test, and refine PLC programs using Siemens TIA Portal and/or Allen Bradley Studio 5000
Implement structured ladder logic, STL, and SCL programming, ensuring best practices in:
Data blocks (Siemens)
Integrate machine interfaces, conveyor systems, and safety controllers
Configure and optimise industrial networks, including Profinet, Ethernet, and Profibus
Commissioning & Onsite Support
Conduct onsite commissioning of control systems within industrial environments
Work on conveyor control, machine sequencing, drive configuration, and motor control (excluding servo systems)
Provide second-line support for diagnosing and resolving issues, including remote troubleshooting and site visits on short notice
Develop and validate safety software in compliance with BS EN 13849
Collaboration & Professional Development
Work closely with project teams, providing technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle
Participate in training sessions to enhance skills and stay updated with the latest industry standards
Proven ability to program PLC systems using ladder logic, STL, and SCL
Hands-on experience in HMI development and industrial automation commissioning
Solid understanding of industrial network communications (Profinet, Ethernet, Profibus)
Ability to work both independently and as part of a controls project team
Willingness to travel across the UK (approx. 50% onsite, 50% office-based)
Travel under 1.5 hours does not require overnight stays
Hotel accommodation covered by employer for extended site visits
Full UK driving license (max 3 penalty points)
Fluent in English with strong technical communication skills
