Working with the immunisation team to administer immunisations safely across a variety of settings including schools, clinics and community settings for school aged children and young people in line with service developments, in accordance with professional accountability, local and national standards, guidelines and commissioned service specification.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide clinical leadership to the Immunisation Staff Nurses utilising specialist expertise and knowledge in immunisations and immunisation programmes for school age children and young people.
2. Work in partnership with children, young people, families and multi-agency services to support healthy outcomes for this client group.
3. Identify vulnerable children and young people and where appropriate play an integral role within the safeguarding process.
4. Provide first line management to Immunisation Staff Nurses including supervision, appraisals and staff rosters ensuring safe practice and a high standard of service delivery.
5. Act as the lead nurse in the organisation and delivery of immunisation sessions, delegating as appropriate.
6. Maintain the cold chain process for all immunisations, manage equipment and resources effectively to avoid waste and promote cost efficiency.
7. Comply with the Medicines Management Standards throughout the process, including contraindications to vaccination.
8. Ensure statutory training is up to date.
9. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation in accordance with local policy and work within all aspects of the NMC Code of Conduct.
10. Maintain portfolio of evidence to demonstrate continuing professional development. Undertake staff appraisals as delegated by team leader.

3. Participate in the development, co-ordination and delivery of Immunisation training for staff members.

16. Obtain informed consent using clinical judgement skills to manage complex information supporting immunisation nurses as appropriate.
17. Maintain the cold chain process for all immunisations, manage equipment and resources effectively to avoid waste and promote cost efficiency.
18. Comply with the Medicines Management Standards throughout the process, including contraindications to vaccination.
19. Respond to clinical emergencies, ensuring statutory training is up to date.
20. Report adverse drug reactions through the MRHA system, initiating the Trust Incident reporting process for all other clinical incidents.
21. Maintain accurate and contemporaneous documentation in accordance with local policy and work within all aspects of the NMC Code of Conduct.
22. Provide a confidential service to children and young people, acknowledging specific issues, i.e. safeguarding: in accordance with local policy and guidance.
23. Manage the complaints process as required, escalating to Team Leader as appropriate.
24. Undertake client/service user feedback to ensure quality of service provision using a variety of tools and methods.
25. Undertake audit, benchmarking and standard setting, building an evidence base for best practice whilst evaluating the service continually to ensure high quality service provided.
26. Maintain portfolio of evidence to demonstrate continuing professional development. Undertake staff appraisals as delegated by team leader.
