As a Lead Technical Artist you will have the ability to work with clients, artists and programmers to create innovative and inspiring gaming visuals that set new benchmarks. Third Kind Games - a Virtuos Studio, is a world-class co-development games studio. Third Kind Games was founded in 2016 by a team of nine former Activision veterans and became a Virtuos Studio in 2024.
Our studio is based in Royal Leamington Spa and we also have remote studios in Poland and Spain. Our three studios have been built on the same original spirit and values since our beginning.
We work with some of the biggest names in the games industry such as Blizzard, Amazon, Microsoft and Mythical Games. Role Overview
You enjoy:
1. Leading and managing a small team and working with our team of programmers and artists to support the implementation of fresh and innovative visuals for our games.
2. Maintaining a close working relationship with the management team, producers, leads, directors and other teams to raise project quality.
3. Helping to bridge Art and Code departments with tools and workflows.
4. Leading the way with new technologies and methods to advance Technical Art.
5. Mentoring and assisting your colleagues to support their personal development.
What we are looking for from a Third Kinder
You would:
1. Have several years experience in managing Art pipelines and workflows.
2. Share knowledge and recommend best practices across the team and business.
3. Actively participate in the constant improvement of work methods and processes.
4. Have the motivation and passion to keep up to date with industry developments and bring efficiencies and increased quality, whilst growing your skill set.
5. Hold an understanding of development processes, project management, and agile methodologies.
6. Show an ability to keep team members motivated and working efficiently and toward project goals.
7. Create scripts and tools in Maya or other to help artists (Python, Mel etc.)
8. Have experience with shader creation, optimisation and assist with game optimisation and framerates.
9. Have experience in Unreal or other Engines.
10. Have knowledge in using Particle Effects editors to create PFX and Rigging.
Skills you need
1. 2 years + experience as a Lead Technical Artist working on video gaming titles.
2. 5 years + experience in 3D packages for example; 3D Studio Max, Maya, IXSI, LightWave and ZBrush.
3. Proficient in 2D authoring software for example; Quixel, Ndo, Substance Design, Substance Painter and Photoshop.
4. Passionate about making games visuals and supporting our approach to emerging technologies and industry developments.
5. Ambitious and motivated.

Experience with:
1. Unity Engine
