Senior Health and Safety Manager required by a specialist tier 2 construction contractor. The role is based in Halifax for 2/3 days a week, with travel to project locations required.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead and implement the company’s SHEQ policies and procedures in line with legislative requirements, industry best practices, and internal standards.
2. Develop, implement, and maintain risk assessments and method statements across multiple projects, ensuring hazards are properly identified and mitigated.
3. Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, and near misses, implementing corrective actions and reporting to senior management.
4. Manage and lead the pre-qualification process with Achilles, Construction Line, and the various customer pre-qualification databases.
5. Pre-qualify and audit our sub-contractors and suppliers.
6. Design and deliver Health and Safety training to staff at all levels, ensuring a strong safety culture is embedded within the organization.
7. Conduct regular audits and inspections, ensuring compliance across all sites.
8. Ensure full compliance with ISO 45001 standards and drive continuous improvement through the implementation of management systems.
9. Oversee Health and Safety delivery at construction projects, ensuring compliance is adhered to.
10. Supervise a Quality Engineer.
Experience
You will have significant, senior level Health and Safety experience gained in a Principal or tier 2 contractor environment and hold or be working towards CMIOSH status.
Demonstrable experience in developing safety procedures and managing compliance with health and safety legislation.
Knowledge and understanding of Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM).
Exceptional communication skills.
Qualifications
Ideally hold or be working towards CMIOSH status via NEBOSH or equivalent qualifications.
ISO45001 Lead Auditor beneficial.
