We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate position in the Technology function at Yorkshire Water.
What we do:
Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year can rely on our services and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it’s so much more than this.
We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region and play a key role in the region’s health, wellbeing, and prosperity.
New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. The Technology team is a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
We have exciting opportunities for graduates in the Technology Team at Yorkshire Water. We greatly value the skills and knowledge that our Graduate community brings to our business and the continued contribution they make as they embark on their varied careers across all of our operational and support areas.
With opportunities to build and further develop your skills, our Graduate programme will nurture and support the growth and development of knowledge, skills, and behaviours to become our technology leaders of the future – crucial to our continued commitment to do the right thing for our customers and our environment.
THE ROLE:
The Graduate Programme is a two-year programme offering up to four placements within the Technology team; on these placements you could be learning about Cloud, Operational Technology, AI, Data or Security. In your placements, you could be working on projects, following both waterfall and agile delivery methodologies, working in the service or infrastructure teams to make sure our systems remain operational, the security team to make sure they are secure or working in the architecture team to design the future and drive how Yorkshire Water will achieve our vision.
You don’t need to have a technology degree, but you will need a keen interest in technology and how it can enable the business.
Alongside the placements that you will undertake in Tech, the programme will see you working with other graduates across our business and undertaking activities to meet the challenges faced by our industry, ranging from how to achieve net zero carbon emissions, through to how we plan for drought or flood events.
Technology is at the heart of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
The role of a Graduate Technology Future Leader is a vital one as you will help ensure that water quality targets and standards relating to specific legislation are met. This will ensure that we provide our customers with a wholesome water supply that everyone can enjoy.
Where you’ll fit in:
* Undertake placements in the different teams that make up the Technology function, such as Architecture, Change, Infrastructure and Operations, Data and Security
* Develop your technology knowledge and business skills; we expect our Technology Future Leaders to move into junior tech leadership roles such as Junior Project Manager
* Work as part of a larger team to deliver solutions to business problems; some of the roles that you might work in are as a project analyst, operations specialist, PMO analyst, data governance specialist, security specialist
* For your duration on the programme you will be assigned a line manager and a mentor from within the senior tech community
DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES:
We recognise that each of our graduates will have different needs and ambitions; therefore, our programme is designed to meet those individual needs so that you can shape your future career the way that suits you. We offer a balanced development programme throughout the duration of your two years with support from Sponsoring Managers, Graduate Champions and Mentors, as well as the core programme team to support you from the day you make the decision to join us.
REQUIREMENTS:
* An interest in technology, and how it can be used to solve business problems - there is no expectation that you will be able to code
* Security vetting – Yorkshire Water will facilitate this for successful candidates
* Enthusiasm and a drive to succeed
