We have an opportunity for a Laboratory Technician to join our Materials Engineering team at our Aerospace site in Yeovil. The successful candidate will be responsible for production testing and support of manufacturing and engineering requests for materials analysis and testing, metallographic preparation, evaluation of samples and operation of multiple laboratory equipment.
Laboratory Technician Responsibilities
• Materials Testing Activities to include (but not limited to); - Metallographic specimen preparation, Microstructure evaluations, Mechanical testing (hardness, tensile), Coatings (coverage, adhesion & thickness), Oxygen compatibility testing (by Differential Scanning Calorimetry), Oil analysis (including viscosity and water content), Elastomer property evaluations, Photo-documentation at both macro and micro scale
• Cleaning and routine maintenance of laboratory analytical instrumentation and metallographic preparation equipment.
• Frequently communicates with internal customers and laboratory management. Closely works with production departments and Materials Engineering to understand production requirements, material specifications, and how materials are used in the manufacture of Honeywell products.
• Opportunity to be trained and to develop into more advanced activities
• Ensures compliance with relevant procedure requirements for materials testing laboratories like ISO and Nadcap as well as relevant Honeywell procedures.
• Technical report writing. Recording and reporting of analysis results using Honeywell web-based LIMS software.
• Has ability to recognise and develop opportunities to support engineering customers with advanced lab capabilities.
• Communicates effectively with Materials Engineering team members and other engineers in order to troubleshoot any issues with products and processes.
Qualifications
• Minimum 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or higher (or equivalent), including Maths and at least 1 science subject
• A level desired but not mandatory. Some degree of lab hands-on practice would be advantageous
• Some experience in the following are desired but not mandatory:
o - Laboratory work experience
o - Experience with microstructural, mechanical and physical properties of materials.
• Ability to understand and work with aerospace materials & process standards / specifications preferred
