If you are interested in working as a Climbing Assistant at the YMCA Newark & Sherwood Climbing Wall, we are looking to expand out
team of Casuals to cover busy periods, holidays, sickness and be part of our future team expansion!
We are looking for people who are available to cover our busiest times which are:
Monday to Friday - 4pm to 7pm
Saturday and Sunday = 10am - 6pm
There will be shifts available during term time and during academic holidays.

Job Description
This is a role where you will be anything but sat at a desk!
From helping people use the climbing well, supervising the clip and climb area to climbing the wall yourself to re-set the routes,
this is a busy, active and highly interactive job with our customers.
You will support with sessions for all ages and abilities, ensuring an exceptional visitor experience.
Once you have been fully inducted and trained on our processes and procedures it is important you following Health & Safety
procedures and YMCA Newark & Sherwood policies and procedures at all times and attending additional training where required.
You will also:
Ensure that all climbers have completed/obtained the necessary pre-session requirements.
Maintain the highest customer service standards
Ensure that all necessary checks are carried out regularly on all climbing walls and that boulders and climbing routes are reset
on a regular basis to a high standard to keep the climbing facility fresh and interesting for visitors.
Ensure the Climbing Centre is clean and tidy for visitors.
Deal with accidents and incidents as they arrive, recording appropriately.
Use your own previous climbing experience and training to instruct adults and children of all abilities.
We would look for you to be flexible and be available to work evenings and weekends, mostly rota ’ed in advance but able to cover
at short notice if needed.
About You
You will be a passionate climber first and foremost – your love of climbing will translate in your ability to teach, inspire and
engage children, young people and adults who use our wall.
You will need to be equally comfortable talking to a group of children for the Clip n Climb safety briefing as answering questions
from an Adult climber.
Your excellent customer service skills will mean you are confident enough to speak with customers, give a warm welcome to anyone
coming into the centre but also confident enough to stop someone if they are about to put themselves or others at risk.
You might already have worked as a Climbing Assistant/Instructor and we would absolutely welcome your experience and expertise
too. Your previous experience will give you a fantastic start but we would also be delighted to support your continual
development and provide you the opportunity to undertake further training and qualifications with us.
Next Steps
We are hosting 2 Assessment days in October where you can come and spend some time at our Climbing Centre, learn some climbing
techniques, get to show us how you interact with customers and most important - have a climb yourself!

Wednesday 9th October - 1pm - 3.30pm
Sunday 13th October - 1pm - 3.30pm
