Job Title: Commercial Manager/Quantity Surveyor
Location: Redditch
Working Hours: 7:30 am – 5:00 pm
Role Summary
As the Commercial Manager, you will take responsibility for managing the commercial aspects of multiple groundworks and civil engineering projects. This role involves overseeing project finances, ensuring profitability, and fostering strong relationships with clients and subcontractors. You will collaborate closely with internal teams to ensure the successful delivery of projects within budget and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
1. Prepare and submit accurate monthly applications for payment in a timely manner.
2. Monitor project costs and prepare cost reconciliations aligned with valuations.
3. Complete monthly forecasts with production teams to monitor and maintain the commercial performance of projects throughout their lifecycle.
Client & Account Management:
4. Provide quotations for variations, ensuring only those commercially agreed are undertaken by the production team.
5. Manage client accounts, ensuring any payment discrepancies are promptly identified and resolved.
6. Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients.
7. Procure subcontractor and supplier packages, negotiating terms and managing subcontractor accounts.
8. Ensure all project teams have access to the latest drawings and tender allowance details.
9. Mentor and support Trainee and Assistant Quantity Surveyors or other team members as required.
10. Work closely with production teams to identify and implement cost-saving measures.
11. Conduct regular site visits to review progress, quality, and compliance with contractual requirements.
12. Maintain organised project records, including contracts, invoices, quality assurance, and correspondence.
13. Ensure the latest project information, including drawings and tender details, is consistently available to project teams.
Key Skills & Experience Required
14. Proven experience in a commercial management role within the groundworks or civil engineering sector.
15. Strong financial acumen, including cost management and forecasting.
16. Excellent negotiation and communication skills, with a proactive approach to client and subcontractor management.
17. Ability to mentor and develop junior team members.
18. Familiarity with contract management and compliance standards in the construction industry.
