Principal Scientist, Scientific Data Processing Lead
The UK Structural & Biophysical Sciences Centre of Excellence at Stevenage is a global multi-disciplinary department within GSK R&D that provides molecular insights into drug discovery for small molecule, oligonucleotide, biopharmaceutical and vaccine programmes.
Our new CryoEM lab has state of the art facilities including two Glacios microscopes and a well-equipped sample preparation laboratory. We also have regular access to two Krios microscopes from our membership of the Cambridge CryoEM Consortium. To facilitate the rapid processing and subsequent interpretation of a continuous flow of CryoEM datasets we have embarked on building a new computing and software infrastructure from the ground up, including both on premises and in Cloud computing systems at scale.
We are looking for an exceptional Principal Scientist with an interest in building and improving data processing workflows and using them to accelerate the impact of our new world class structural biology facilities. This role provides opportunities to integrate advances in prediction, modelling and AI/ML by collaborating with departments at GSK, enhancing the speed and success of drug discovery. The initial focus will be on CryoEM data processing with the expectation that it would later expand to include additional structural biology and biophysical techniques. Whilst drawing on the ideas and experience of the wider group, you will bring your own ideas to the design and implementation of the data processing workflows, building capabilities by scripting the functionalities of current CryoEM software packages. Working with live project data you will contribute to the delivery of results for drug discovery project goals, enabling the group to drive science forward. This role could be an ideal opportunity to progress your career. Whether you are interested in being an individual contributor or have leadership aspirations we would like to hear from you.
