This is a very exciting time to join specialist rehabilitation in the East Midlands. The National Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) will be open to patients in Summer 2025. This will be a ground-breaking 70 bed facility for NHS patients based alongside and closely connected to the Defence Medical Rehab Centre at Stanford Hall. The NRC will host a national training and education centre and a research and innovation hub. Together with our academic partners (UoN and LU), the NRC will set a new standard for rehabilitation.
We need forward-thinking, ambitious consultants whose skills and ideas will help us to deliver our plans and thus shape the future of rehab medicine. This is a unique opportunity to take rehab medicine in a new and exciting direction, establishing a new standard for clinical, research & innovation excellence. We are developing new and innovative ways of working with access to cutting edge technology and robotics.
The service is well supported by the Rehabilitation Directorate Head of Service and wider medical team who carry out the day-to-day clinical duties, allowing the post-holder to provide specialist advice and establish a wide network of relationships with other related disciplines (e.g. Neurosciences, Major Trauma, Orthopaedic Surgery, Critical Care).

1. Working with MDT colleagues to provide a comprehensive, high quality Rehab Medicine service at all stages of their rehab journey.
2. Responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients and delivery of clinical duties as agreed in the job plan.
3. Act as clinical supervisor for specialist rehabilitation Advanced Care Practitioners and resident doctors.
4. Take an active role in service development and quality improvement work.
5. Participate in the teaching and training of undergraduate medical students, resident medical, nursing and AHP colleagues.
6. Communicate with patients, relatives and carers of patients; provide advice, attend goal setting meetings and liaise with third parties as required. Provision of cover for periods of leave (there is no cross cover for clinics).
7. Liaise with consultant colleagues as required and with other health care professionals in the MDT Rehab teams.
8. Take an active role in research and innovation under the supervision of the NRC Rehabilitation Medicine Research Lead.
These duties are subject to review from time to time in the light of the changing requirements of the service. If alterations to the described duties are required these will be mutually agreed between the appointee, his/her Consultant colleagues, and the Trust. The person appointed will be required to devote substantially the whole of his/her time to the duties of the post and give them priority at all times.
