The maternal medicine specialist midwife will work as an integral part of the maternal medicine team to provide expert advice and specific support and management of care of women with pre existing dibetes and gestational diabetes throughout their pregnancy and postnatal pathway and support the running of the maternal medicine service.
Supporting the implementation of effective care pathways for women with complex medical conditions specifically those women with pre existing diabetes and gestational diabetes within Liverpool Women`s Maternal Medicine Centre with a key focus on addressing inequalities in all aspects of care.
Work with the lead maternal medicine midwife, obstetrician, and obstetric physician to provide a maternal Medicine Network within the NW.
Support developing and implementing a shared vision for midwifery within the Maternal Medicine Network delivering the Network objectives.
Adhere to the midwifery code of practice, ensuring that regular mandatory training and continued professional development is undertaken.
Work within the specialist maternal medicine Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to provide continuity of care for the women in the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.
Participate in the weekly MMC MDT
Work within the managerial structure of the LWH to ensure the effective provision of a high-quality maternal medicine service. Including participating in the development of standards for the maternal medicine service and maternity services strategy.
Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance.
Lead on developing policies, guidelines and protocols for the maternal medicine service and their implementation, ensuring the engagement of key stakeholders
Work closely within the North West Coast maternity voice partnerships (MVP), to understand the needs of women. Ensuring that any information is communicated in a relevant and understandable way to women and their families.
Advocate for equity of access, particularly amongst those from ethnic minority backgrounds and those from the most socially deprived groups.

Have overall responsibility and accountability for the management of the ward or department, providing a dynamic leadership role within the team. Ensuring at all times that patients and their families are at the centre of the ward/ dept philosophy.
Ensuring effective communication and engagement is maintained at all times, ensuring regular team meetings and opportunities for staff at all levels to contribute to decision making at ward or department level.
Able to make effective decisions autonomously / independently without supervision and in partnership with patients, families and the multi-disciplinary team.
Support the Matron and wider members of the Divisional Management team in achieving the strategic objectives for the Division and the Trust.
Demonstrate strong leadership and act as a role model for the midwifery team, ensuring the delivery of a high standard of evidence based care to patients and providing support for all staff on the unit.
Responsibility for development within the department / ward, taking a lead role in ensuring continuous improvements in standards for the benefit of good patient care, represent the department / ward and Division at appropriate Trust meetings
Facilitate and support the education of registered and non registered staff and work in association with, and in support of the matron in defining standards of care and practice aimed at developing and/or improving the quality of patient care.
Manage and co-ordinate a ward /department team, working autonomously without supervision, providing professional clinical leadership and responsibility for ensuring an environment of empowerment through coaching, teaching and facilitation.
At all times working to ensure the most effective use of all ward resources.
