Job Summary
The Resource Assistant reports to the Manager of Support Services. The Resource Assistant assists with the delivery of information and resource services and programs to the community. Casual Resource Assistant hours are scheduled on an as-needed (call-in/supply), or as-assigned basis and can work at any branch throughout Essex County.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Provides reference service through the efficient use of electronic databases, the Internet, and print reference tools.
2. Provides readers’ advisory services through an awareness of reading resources, reading trends, and supporting patron preferences.
3. Provides circulation services through the use of the Library’s ILS (Integrated Library System) SirsiDynix.
4. Assists in organizing and delivering programs of interest to the community, such as children’s, adult, and outreach programming.
5. Promotes Essex County Library resources and services through displays, tours, and contact with community groups.
6. Assists in the maintenance of a current, well-balanced, and up-to-date collection.
7. Assists with daily processing of library resources such as retrieving holds requests, handling branch deliveries, and searching for requested materials.
8. Assists with the collection of monthly statistics and reporting.
Qualifications & Skills
1. University Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent experience required.
2. Previous library experience, preferably in a Public Library.
3. Demonstrated customer service skills, effectively able to communicate with and assist patrons of all ages.
4. Demonstrated research skills using print and electronic reference tools.
5. Demonstrated computer skills, including proficiency in Word document software, library databases, and integrated library system (SirsiDynix).
6. Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering community-focused programs.
7. A broad-based reading background in a wide variety of genres and levels.
8. Solid literacy skills (vocabulary, spelling, and comprehension).
Compensation
1. A starting wage of $32.03 - $37.68 per hour.
2. Enrolment in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System, a pension system sought by many.
