Derbyshire County Council are looking for apprentices to join Lea Green Development Centre where we provide high quality outdoor education to visitors at our fabulous house and grounds near Matlock in Derbyshire. You will learn and develop the necessary skills to assist in the delivery of safe, high quality outdoor education for children, young people & adults, whilst working towards a Level 3 Outdoor Activity Instructor qualification.
You should be enthusiastic, honest, adaptable with a love of outdoor adventurous activities. You should show clear commitment to improving personal skill in activities and working towards coaching awards. You should be flexible and adaptable – you are as likely to be changing beds or washing up as you are on the high ropes course or paddleboarding!
The role is for a Fixed Term Contract of 18 months.

Day to Day Duties:
* Achieving all elements of the relevant apprenticeship qualification including attaining the required level of functional skills competence in English, mathematics and ICT (as appropriate).
* Complying with the policies and legal requirements including Health and Safety, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Equality and Human Rights, Data Protection Act, Risk Management and Financial Regulations.
* Taking responsibility for one’s own personal development and continually updating as necessary. This includes actively participating in and gaining relevant experience of outdoor activities.
* Taking an active and enthusiastic approach towards one’s own professional development, including working towards gaining recognised and relevant outdoor leadership qualifications.
* Assist in the co-ordination and delivery of a full range of educational and personal development courses and to take part in all centre activities which will include some weekend and evening work.
* Preparing and assisting all manners of outdoor activity sessions in a safe, engaging, and inclusive manner to suit a range of participants.
* Assist with the maintenance, preparation, organisation and issuing of equipment.
* Assist in the daily site duties and maintenance.
* Assist in ensuring that a safe environment exists for all visitors to the centre.
* Assisting all teams within the centre to aid in the smooth running of all areas.
* Contribute to welcoming and supportive ethos, working flexibly when necessary to support colleagues.
* Gaining experience of different outdoor education teams with a view to broadening experience and knowledge base.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Knowledge of sport and outdoor activities through work, school, or hobby interest.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
* Excellent communication skills and ability to relate to young people.
* Able to follow written and spoken instructions.
* Accuracy and attention to detail.
* Excellent organisational and time management skills.
* Prioritises own workload effectively.
* Able to use initiative and work independently.
* Aware of the importance of confidentiality.
* Understanding of the importance of customer care.
* Recognises individual’s right to privacy and dignity, treating every person with respect.
* Basic understanding of health and safety issues relating to the apprenticeship.
* Basic understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding issues.
* Enthusiasm towards outdoor activities and positive effect the outdoors has on young people.
* Level 2 (GCSE Grade C/ 4) in Functional Skills Maths and English.
* A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
* First Aid Qualification.
Vacancy Location: Accommodation is not provided.
Salary Details: National minimum wage for age, Ages 18 to 20: £8.60, Ages 21 and over: £11.44.
Working Hours: 37 hours a week – annualised (will involve regular evenings and some weekends). The job may require unsocial hours working including weekends and Bank Holidays.
