As the Customs Manager at ASCO UK, you will drive and ensure compliance with all customs-related regulations, providing governance and operational excellence across the business. Reporting to the General Manager, you will take on a leadership role, contributing to continuous improvement, customer service, and the development of the Customs Service offering, aimed at growing revenue contribution. This is a key position where your expertise will influence both operational and strategic decisions, ensuring our customs processes meet the highest standards of compliance and efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Management of the customs compliance team with the Freight Management division. Leading and developing the team in the day-to-day operations.
* Ensure adherence to UK Customs regulations and trade laws, minimizing risks and avoiding penalties. Assist other areas of the business with adjusting their processes to meet new legislation requirements.
* Assist with tenders and proposals for new business and assist with growth opportunities where necessary.
* Act as the main point of contact for internal teams, clients, and government authorities on customs matters.
* Help build strong customer relationships within the current customer base as well as new customers.
Skills And Experience
* Extensive Customs Experience: Proven experience within the energy, logistics, or supply chain sectors, with an in-depth understanding of customs procedures.
* Expert Knowledge: Strong understanding of the customs regulations and processes affecting the UK continental shelf.
* Commercial Acumen: Commercially aware, with excellent customer relationship management skills and the ability to influence and negotiate.
* Leadership Skills: Experience in managing and motivating teams, with strong people management capabilities.
* Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to report and present information clearly.
* Analytical & Organisational Skills: Solutions-focused, with strong analytical, planning, and organisational skills, and a keen attention to detail.
* Independent & Team Player: Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative while collaborating effectively within the wider team.
* IT Proficiency: Computer literate with advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum Qualifications
* Customs qualifications from a recognised body, or relevant experience.
Desirable Qualifications
* Membership in a professional institute/association (e.g., IOE, CILT)
