Turner/Machinist – Shop Floor Role Location: Bolton Job Type: Permanent Rate: £17.30 per hour Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday – Thursday, 06:30 am – 4:15 pm, including lunch and breaks) About the Role We have a vacancy for a shop floor staff role within an established engineering team. This position involves manufacturing precision parts using a conventional centre lathe, alongside operating milling and drilling machines. You will also oversee or operate CNC machines and carry out assembly and fitting work to ensure high-quality production. Key Responsibilities: Precision Turning: Operate a conventional centre lathe to manufacture and refurbish precision parts. Milling & Drilling: Work with conventional milling and drilling machines for new part production and repair. Assembly & Fitting: Assemble components to engineering drawings, adjust parts for precision, and conduct functional testing. CNC Operation: Assist with feeding and minding CNC machines (programming experience is advantageous but not essential). Continuous Improvement: Contribute to manufacturing and productivity enhancements. Health & Safety Compliance: Ensure safe operation of machinery and adherence to safety regulations. What We’re Looking For: Essential: Experience with conventional machine tools (lathe, milling, drilling). Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications. Competence in using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, vernier calipers). Knowledge of safe working practices in an engineering environment. Desirable: Completed a relevant apprenticeship with supporting qualifications. 5 years' experience in precision machining and fitting. Exposure to CNC machines (feeding, minding, or programming).
