DESCRIPTION
The Global Benefits Risk & Compliance (GBRC) team is responsible for managing global risk activities that include identifying, inventorying, assessing, controlling, and monitoring important benefits-related risks in countries where we do business. As a member of the GBRC team within Amazon's Benefits Experience and Technology organization, the Senior Benefits Risk Manager works with global policy, process, and system owners to design, administer, and test the organization's global health, wellness and other related employee benefit programs, and evaluate these programs from a risk and compliance perspective.
This includes researching legal and regulatory obligations with local labor and employment attorneys, working with project teams to translate legal and regulatory obligations into system or process requirements, monitoring the effectiveness of controls designed to meet obligations on a regular and ongoing basis, and developing and leading remediation plans to mitigate risk. These activities may be driven by new legal requirements, geographies, types of business, solution implementations, or emerging risk issues, among other things.
Key job responsibilities
1. Consult with global legal and HR policy, process, and system owners to ensure that sound protocols are in place to mitigate the risks inherent in employee benefits programs and activities.
2. Identify, assess, and monitor known and emerging risks; measure internal control effectiveness; and develop and own action items to remediate identified risk issues.
3. Develop deep knowledge of Amazon employee benefits programs and operations and provide consult to benefits stakeholders to ensure compliance with local legislation and adaptations of global benefits programs and strategies to local markets, rules, regulation and cultural nuances/sensitivities to mitigate any potential risks.
4. Develop deep knowledge of the employee benefits solution(s) utilized by Amazon and consult on the development of business requirements for new system implementations and enhancements.
5. Draft written narratives to communicate obligations, risk analyses, and recommendations to policy, process, and system owners and senior stakeholders.
6. Inventory compliance obligations and their related risks in a governance, risk, and compliance system framework.
7. Conduct on-site and virtual risk and control assessments, determine state of compliance, analyze overall risk exposure, draft reports detailing methodology, results, and remediation plans.
8. Consult on supporting documentation, such as manager and employee communications, FAQs, policy positions, and standard operating procedures.
9. Respond to risk and compliance inquiries, and troubleshoot issues.
10. Manage other risk and compliance related activities as needs arise.
11. Able to travel 20%, as necessary.
About the team
The Global Benefits Risk & Compliance (GBRC) team is made up of attorneys, risk specialists, data security specialists, automation experts, and privacy specialists with global HR and benefits backgrounds. We provide our benefits stakeholders guidance to help them identify and manage potential risks and improve their team's risk management strategies and compliance posture. The team proactively scans the horizon for new and emerging risks not yet fully developed or understood, and performs inspections to identify compliance gaps and control weaknesses before they materialize into risk events. We provide end-to-end risk management oversight, including risk identification, risk assessments, risk quantification, compliance advisory services, inspection services, control design and testing, compliance solutions, risk monitoring and reporting, issue management, and risk training.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
2. Experience in a benefits, compliance, or risk management role.
3. Experience with employee benefits administration.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master's degree or equivalent.
2. Advanced degree in a related area (MSHR, MBA, JD).
3. Risk or Audit Certification.
4. Experience in benefits management, preferably in a multinational organization or consulting firm.
5. In-depth knowledge of employee benefits programs, regulations, and best practices in the EMEA region.
6. Strong understanding of regional compliance requirements and ability to navigate complex legal frameworks.
7. Experience working in a global, large-scale, complex, and fast-paced environment.
8. Ability to manage ambiguity and drive results.
9. Experience building cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders across the organization to act without having a direct reporting relationship.
10. Problem solver, able to troubleshoot issues independently or escalate when necessary.
11. Sense of accountability and sound professional judgment.
12. Proven analytical capabilities.
13. Experience with large amounts of data and in developing audit reports, metrics, and reporting mechanisms.
14. Experience managing risk and performing risk management activities.
15. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
