A challenging and rewarding, temporary grant funded, full time role has become available to support the work of the inclusion team. The post of Engagement and Attendance Liaison Officer will support the team with its remit around supporting schools, parents/carers and young people. The post will report to the Inclusion Manager and Lead inclusion officers. You will also be confident to meet with and work to engage with schools, learners and their parents and carers in home settings and at school. You will support schools and families and provide guidance and support. You will play a key role in acting as the first point of liaison between schools and parents/ learners and the Inclusion team.
The remit of the Inclusion team includes: promoting the welfare and attendance of learners in school – including use of legal routes such as issue of Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs), School attendance orders (SAOs) and also welfare and engagement support to families and schools to promote positive attendance and reduce persistent (below 80%) absence.

Pay Details: Grade 6, SCP 14 -19, £27,334 - £29,777
Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks
Temporary - March 2025 - in the first instance – Grant funded
Main Place of Work: Civic Offices, Barry – with some WFH and frequent school meetings and school based working across the LA.

About you
You will need: Experience of working in or with schools
Experience of working with pupils in several key stages
Working with ALN pupils or pupils from a potentially vulnerable group (Estyn categories) eg for instance LAC/CLA.
Working with phobic, anxious, or reluctant pupils/learners or with non-attenders
Work engaging young people in or out of the school environment
Work liaising with parents/ carers in or out of school settings
Multi agency working Knowledge of the Vale of Glamorgan support for Wellbeing such as approaches to and support for Social and emotional and mental health needs eg TIS approach
Knowledge of the workings of schools and the National Curriculum and of the remit of the Inclusion Team of VOG
An understanding of the legislation relating to the education of children and young people and the Welsh government attendance framework
A sound knowledge and understanding of the legislation relating to Education and Safeguarding Children and Young People
Knowledge and understanding of the impact social deprivation and disadvantage has on school attendance and attainment
IT knowledge and ability to use ICT effectively and safely and in accordance with data and privacy legislation.
