Role Profile: Assistant Director (IC0) Team: Innovation & Capability Role and Structure of the UKDSC The UK Defence Solutions Centre (UKDSC) is the core of the DGP enterprise, a unique collaboration between the UK’s leading defence companies, and UK Government, including MoD, BEIS and DIT. The DGP’s core strategic mission is to transform the UK’s defence industry to equip it to deliver export driven growth in the face of intense international competition. Innovation & Capability Team This specification is for a part time (3 days per week) post within the Innovation and Capability team. The team leads UKDSC support to UK Innovation Challenges and Cross Sector Innovation initiatives. It also drives UK defence capability to better place it to meet the needs of future international requirements through the creation and analysis of capability and technology landscapes and roadmaps to identify interventions that will enhance the UK’s ability to win future international opportunities. The team are also the key element of the UKDSC that works within the UK Science and Technology ecosystem. The team works closely with the Market Intelligence team in assessing the potential for technology exploitation in defence, civil, domestic and export markets and with the Data team for supporting investment evidence. The Innovation and Capability team’s objectives are to: Stimulate innovation and investment across UK defence capability to better place it to meet the needs of future international requirements. Provide tangible benefits – ‘win-win’ for MOD, wider government and industry in the form of new capability, exploitation opportunities, international’/domestic/defence/civil Support agreed, aligned priority themes and topics in MOD and civil / commercial sectors where there is confirmed exploitation potential Support implementation of the Defence Industrial Strategy Assistant Director I&C The role of Assistant Director – Innovation & Capability reports directly to the Executive Director, Prosperity, Innovation & Capability and is the focus co-ordinator of all Innovation & Capability activities within UKDSC. As an experienced engineer with business acumen, you will be responsible for the leadership and delivery of innovation projects aligned to the CWP. An experienced individual with a strong technical background, the role requires broad technical experience of a wide variety of defence technologies or able to assimilate knowledge rapidly. Together this will build understanding of the evolving technology landscape, identify how this could be applied to defence capabilities and hence potential cross sector innovation opportunities, of benefit to both UK and overseas military users and UK industry.
