We have an exciting opportunity for a Production Shift Manager to join our team within Vistry Works at our flagship factory in Coalville, Leicestershire.
As a Production Shift Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Manufacturing and the Head of I-Joist and Trusses and be responsible for the management of the whole production team on that shift. This consists of two shift supervisors, several working supervisors, and 100+ factory operatives within a timber engineering manufacturing facility. You will work across all automated and manual production lines, maintaining the highest level of safety, environmental, and product quality standards.
This is a new role for our current facility, setting up an entirely new team for an afternoon shift. The intended shift will be 2pm-10pm after an onboarding and training process alongside the morning shift.
Responsibilities:
* Competently manage all areas of production on your shift, ensuring product quality and productivity is maintained at the agreed set levels.
* Work closely with and support the Production planners and Systems Coordinator for best production workflow.
* Ensure all safety and environmental policies are adhered to and applied consistently, including carrying out various checks and recording all data associated with them.
* Understand and observe health and safety rules and be aware of the safety of self and others to promote a safe working environment and culture.
* Collaborate with the opposite shift, ensuring that both shifts work as one whole team to achieve shared goals and targets.
* Set development and training for all team members to carry out tasks in their own area and be involved in their assessment by providing final sign off, to build a skilled team and drive a high-performance culture.
* Be alert to ‘right first time’ quality standards, informing others where standards are not met so that they can take appropriate action as required to contribute to the production of a quality product.
* Work alongside the Engineering Team to carry out basic problem diagnosis, or call for further assistance where it is required to ensure that any downtime is minimal.
* Ensure that expected material requirements are in place, resolving material shortages where possible, or escalating any issues.
* Contribute to the completion of the production plan using appropriate systems where necessary.
* Be flexible and willing to assist in busier periods where necessary, taking a hands-on role to ensure that production schedules are met.
* Identify, communicate, and implement opportunities for continuously improving working methods and seeking efficiencies.
* Carry out any reasonable tasks or operations as directed by your line manager in the course of your duties.
Minimum Requirements:
* A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a manufacturing management position, ideally within the timber frame or housebuilding industry.
* Natural leader and communicator, with experience in managing and developing a large number of people in a fast-paced environment.
* Thorough understanding of Health and Safety and the requisite processes and procedures.
* Confidence in a variety of manufacturing processes, including the general upkeep and safe running of woodworking machinery.
* Strong general awareness of Health & Safety, manufacturing, production, transportation, construction, and on-site installation.
