The RNCM is recruiting a part-time (80 hours per annum) staff pianist who has a broad working knowledge of the instrumental and vocal repertoire, and wide experience as an accompanist/ collaborative pianist. Experience working in an academic setting as an accompanist is desirable, and excellent sight-reading skills and the ability to absorb and communicate musical ideas quickly and effectively in rehearsal and performance are essential. We are looking for an applicant with knowledge of a cross-section of repertoire used by strings, wind, brass and vocal students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and at least one specialism, preferably knowledge of the brass and piano duo repertoire. Vocal coaching skills eg languages are also desirable. It is expected that applicants will have completed postgraduate or equivalent level study of accompaniment as a discipline and have demonstrable experience as a collaborative pianist in the profession. Duties include, but are not limited to: Accompanying classes within all performance schools (Vocal; Strings; Wind, Brass and Percussion). Performing in competitions, concerts and recitals within the college for all performance schools. Providing accompaniment support for auditions and assessments for all performance schools Other duties as directed by the Head of Accompaniment. Audition requirements: Following initial selection, successful applicants will be invited for an in-person audition/interview at RNCM and they will be asked to perform: A duo for brass instrument and piano, prepared in the warm-up room with a student from the School of Wind, Brass and Percussion. The piano score for this will be provided a week before the interview day. A string duo. The score for this will be provided as the applicant enters the warm-up room and the panel will then observe a rehearsal and performance in the audition room with a student from the School of Strings.
