Are you looking to join a friendly and committed team, offering great flexible working? We are seeking to recruit a Senior Payroll Officer to join our Pay & Benefits team within the People and Organisation service to provide maternity leave cover. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to an essential function supporting over 3,500 employees who work for our local authority.
About the Role
As a Senior Payroll Officer, you will play a vital role in ensuring the accurate, efficient, and timely running of our payroll. You will be part of a supportive and ambitious service that is focused on delivering high-quality services across HR, Pay and Benefits, Learning and Development, and Health and Safety.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented individual with:
* Strong attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to tight deadlines.
* Excellent ICT skills, preferably with experience using payroll or accounting software, spreadsheets, and processing timesheets (or transferable skills in these areas).
* A customer-focused mindset, with the confidence to communicate professionally over the phone and via email.
* A desire to learn and develop, with a proactive approach to problem-solving and supporting the team.
While existing payroll experience is desirable, full training and support will be provided by experienced team members to ensure you develop the knowledge and skills required for the role.
Due to the requirements of the role, the successful candidate must have the required level of Welsh fluency on appointment. Please see the person specification for further details.
Our Offer to You
We are committed to developing our people and will not only provide support to enable you to quickly and confidently take ownership of this role’s key areas of responsibility but, in addition, we are committed to supporting your development in order that you can progress your career with us.
In exchange for your skills and commitment, we will offer you a range of employee benefits including flexible working, competitive annual leave allowance, enhanced family benefits, lifestyle savings, and employee health and wellbeing packages.
We recognise the value of a healthy work-life balance and are committed to helping you achieve it. To support this, we offer a range of discretionary benefits tailored to provide flexibility and autonomy over your work schedule:
* Hybrid Working Scheme:
Subject to certain conditions, such as having a suitable workspace and reliable broadband, you can choose to work from home or at one of our office locations — giving you the freedom to work where you’re most productive.
* Flexi-Time Scheme: With your line manager’s approval, you can complete your contractual hours anytime between 7:30 am and 7:00 pm, Monday to Friday. This allows you to tailor your working hours to suit your personal commitments and lifestyle. Additionally, any hours worked beyond your contractual requirement can be banked and taken as extra leave, offering even greater flexibility.
More information about our wide-ranging employee benefits can be found on our careers website.
