Our clients young people have access to a spacious group home living environment, designed to support 3 young people between 10 to 18-years of age. THE ROLE OF A SENIOR RESIDENTIAL CHILDCARE WORKER As a Senior Residential Childcare Worker, your role is to assist the home’s management team in achieving the aims and objectives of the Statement of Purpose and uphold the organisation’s mission statement and values. To support and assist in the leadership of the care team to enable them to dynamically meet the changing needs of the children and young people, and to support in the day to day running and delivery of practice across the home. The Senior Residential Childcare Worker role is to support the Registered Home Manager in providing the best quality childcare in a safe and care focused environment for the children. When on shift you will have initial responsibilities for monitoring and supervision of staff and take responsibility for completing daily tasks, and guidance of colleagues whilst ensuring the welfare and care of the young people. As a Senior, you are expected to support the development of your residential care worker colleagues; achieved through effective peer role modelling, guidance, task setting, and debrief and reflection. You will further support the Home Manager in establishing an effective supervision structure which provides wrap around support for the care team at all times. You will undertake direct work with the children and young people as appropriate, taking an active role in reviewing case files, updating plans and supporting professional reviewing meetings, advocating support for the child where necessary. The children and young people that our client cares for can demonstrate a wide range of challenging behaviours and can be very demanding of time, attention and emotions. The focus of every staff member is to work actively to meet the needs of the children and young people in our clients care; achieved through a dynamic and active team. You will work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people. Offer supervision and support to the Care Team in line with Quality Standards & Regulations and as directed by the Home Manager. Promote a PACE approach across the home, and role model best practice throughout the shifts. RESPONSIBILITIES Childcare Provision To contribute to the normal development of the young people through the provision of a healthy lifestyle, a variety of appropriate activities and a consistent caring adult role model. To be sensitive to the needs of individual young people, taking account of race, language, religion, sexuality and culture To talk and listen to young people, monitoring their behaviour and recording significant features To contribute to and implement care plans, participate in reviews and other meetings as required and ensuring LAC documentation is up to date and changed when appropriate i.e. after a statutory review. To promote working in partnership with parents, carers, social workers and any other appropriate persons important to that young person. To provide additional support and comfort to young people who are under stress or suffering from anxiety. To identify and implement boundaries necessary to modify unacceptable behaviour of young people. To be alert to signs of distress or abuse and to ensure that the young people are monitored and protected. To encourage young people when appropriate to carry out physical tasks i.e. washing, shopping and budgeting. To contribute to the development of service provision. Undertake any other duties that may be required. Support of Staff To ensure the daily management, monitoring and supervision of staff is facilitated in a professional and competent manner. To promote professionalism and standards to the team in line with policy and procedures. To be responsible for the deployment of staff on duty to ensure that the work of the unit is undertaken. To participate in regular staff meetings. To participate in the induction of staff.To work in accordance with Hamann Care policies and procedures. To report to the homes management team/director or other appropriate person on areas of malpractice, or the suspicions or evidence which may suggest it. Home & Administration To contribute to the effective management of the homes resources, keeping within the devolved budgetary constraints. To record budget activity in line with financial procedures. To be responsible for the security of monies kept on premises in line with procedures. To follow all administrative and financial procedures. Health & Safety To implement the Health & Safety policies and ensure that all staff are aware of all Health & Safety procedures. To undertake risk assessments as appropriate. Ensure that all incidents/accidents are recorded and reported according to procedures. To undertake fire drills and tests in accordance with procedure and record the necessary data. Physical Environment Ensure that the condition of the premises is maintained and report any physical deterioration or repairs. To ensure the security of the premises, furniture, equipment, and the personal belongings of the young people. Training and Team Development To identify individual staff training needs and participate as appropriate in the development of staff with agreement and support from your manager. To develop and participate in training initiatives. To develop own and colleagues’ skills in direct work with children & young people. Communication To observe and actively promote lines of communication with staff and senior management, and ensure they are made aware of serious or potential serious situations. Ensure effective communication with all relevant professionals during working hours. Personal Development To take responsibility for continuing personal development and remain up to date with relevant child care legislation and practice, both locally and nationally. To attend training sessions, courses or qualifications based on identified areas within supervision for development. Supervision To receive supervision from the home manager in line with Hamann Care supervision policy. As part of your development, you may be required to conduct supervisions and complete relevant supervision training. Job related knowledge and skills Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regs. Willing to work Bank Holidays and Christmas Holidays Work shift patterns including sleep-ins CONDITIONS OF SERVICE Salary range is £12.70 to £13.80 per hour. The rate is dependent upon your level of qualification and experience and is calculated at a base rate of 39 hours per week. Sleeps will be paid in addition to this at the rate of £50 per Sleep, working an average of between 6- 10 sleeps per month.
