About us The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is the UK’s principal competition and consumer protection authority. An independent non-ministerial government department, we help people, businesses and the UK economy by promoting competitive markets and tackling unfair behaviour. Our vital and varied remit includes investigating mergers; investigating potential breaches of UK competition law; enforcing consumer protection law; advising policymakers and Ministers on the design and implementation of relevant policies; advising people and businesses about their rights and obligations under competition and consumer law; and working with sector regulators to promote stronger competition in specific industries. We also have significant new powers to enforce consumer protection law and promote competition in digital markets. Your role As Executive Director, you will have strategic and operational leadership of the CMA’s Competition Enforcement directorate. You will also be an active member of the CMA Board. You’ll ensure our competition enforcement regime is delivered to a clear vision, in a collaborative and inclusive working culture. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and your fellow Board members, you will set the strategic and policy direction for your directorate’s work. As the senior responsible officer for competition enforcement cases, you will also be accountable for a strong pipeline of prospective cases and projects. We will look to you to directly lead our Investigator and Intelligence function. As an advocate for the CMA, you will foster excellent relationships across government, and within the legal, economic and business community. In leading the implementation of the competition enforcement elements of new Digital Markets, Competition and Consumer legislation, you will enjoy scope to shape a lasting legacy. About you You will bring to the role exceptional knowledge and experience in competition law and enforcement. We expect you to demonstrate a measurable track record of taking strategic decisions, managing risks proactively and operating collegiately within complex governance arrangements. A highly credible individual, you have the ability to move between strategic thinking and technical detail. Your communication and influencing skills will equip you to manage complex, high-level stakeholder relationships and develop productive relationships with highly qualified experts.
