Job Title: 1:1 Nursery Teaching Assistant
Location: Glastonbury, Somerset – BA6
Hours: 6.5 hours Monday, Wednesday & Friday (potentially to the end of the academic year July 2025).
Salary: £12.90 per hour.
Job Purpose:
To support an individual child with specific needs in a nursery setting, working closely with the nursery teachers and other staff to ensure the child's development and learning is supported effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
* Individual Support: Provide one-on-one support to a child with specific needs (e.g., learning disabilities, developmental delay, sensory issues, etc.) in both group and independent activities.
* Personal Care: Assist with personal care needs, including toileting, feeding, and hygiene, ensuring the child feels comfortable and safe.
* Learning Support: Support the child’s learning and development, helping them to access the curriculum and participate in nursery activities.
* Behaviour Management: Support positive behaviour through gentle guidance and encouragement, ensuring the child’s social and emotional needs are met.
* Communication: Regularly communicate with the child’s parents or caregivers about progress and any concerns. Liaise with the class teacher and SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to monitor the child’s progress and plan next steps.
* Observations: Assist in the observation and recording of the child’s progress, identifying areas where additional support is required.
* Collaborative Working: Work as part of a team with other nursery staff, ensuring that the child's needs are met consistently.
* Safeguarding: Follow safeguarding procedures and policies to ensure the child’s well-being and safety at all times.
Skills and Qualifications:
* Experience working with children, ideally in a nursery or early years setting.
* Knowledge and understanding of child development, particularly in relation to special educational needs.
* A patient, caring, and empathetic approach to working with children.
* Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, other staff, and parents.
* A relevant qualification in childcare (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Childcare and Education) is desirable but not essential.
* First aid qualification is beneficial.
* Experience with specific learning needs or disabilities, in particular Autism & communication language.
