The Role
The Senior Modern Workplace Engineer is responsible for the design, development, implementation, ongoing support and maintenance of SPWs Microsoft 365, Azure and limited on-premise infrastructure (networking, printing and meeting rooms) and associated systems. This role also involves providing subject matter expert services and guidance to other teams across the business and mentoring junior members of the IT Support team. The role focuses on the maintenance of the Microsoft 365 and Azure Infrastructure and associated systems within SPW while helping the Modern Workplace Engineering team to develop and implement new features and capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Device, Application & Data Management: Contribute to endpoint security and perform day to day management of platforms such as SharePoint, OneDrive, Intune, and Jamf.
2. Administration of systems like Teams (including PSTN) and Exchange for efficient communication.
3. Office Engineering: Manage telemetry, add-on governance, and the broader MS365 product suite.
4. Process Automation: Develop scripts and tools for automation using languages like PowerShell and Python. Provide support to the MWE team to help streamline business processes and drive efficiencies with Power Platform.
5. Access and Security Management: Day to day management of access control with Entra ID Defender XDR suite of products.
6. Cloud & Networks: Support cloud services (SaaS, PaaS, IoT) and network infrastructures (WAN, LAN, WiFi).
7. Solution Design and Development: Collaborate with Technology Architects to provide implementation of solutions, ensuring compliance with governance and technical policies.
8. Standards and Best Practices: Work within defined best practices whilst undertaking duties as part of this role.
9. Agile and Collaborative Practices: Leverage tools like Jira and Confluence, working within Agile frameworks to enhance services.
10. Risk Management: Complete all tasks in alignment with SPW's risk appetite.
Implementation
1. Work with the change, application and business teams to contribute to implementations and maintain reliable platform services at SPW.
2. Work closely with Lead & Principal Modern Workplace Engineers to ensure value is delivered from 365 services unleashing new capabilities and driving efficiencies.
3. Work closely with technical & support teams and colleagues across Chief Technology Office, SPW and 3rd parties to ensure solutions are documented.
4. Ensure best practices are followed for Incident, Problem, Change, and Continual Improvements.
Support
1. In conjunction with first and second line support teams, provide an escalation to third line technical support, collaborating with third parties where applicable.
2. Design and implement processes to ensure all managed systems are supportable, available, recoverable, secure (patched) and thoroughly documented.
3. Stay up to date with relevant frameworks, industry guidelines and best practices.
4. Ensure solution compliance with applicable SPW standards and policies.
5. Where applicable, provide support documentation to be used by first and second line teams.
6. Provide technical mentoring to first line support colleagues.
7. Assess and maintain the good working state of our Microsoft 365 and Azure platform and ensure efficient and effective use of the platform.
Supplier Management
1. Work with technical contacts at key suppliers ensuring incidents are raised correctly and progressed.
2. Work with suppliers and wider Modern Workplace Engineering team to introduce new and innovative features to the estate.
Qualifications & Skills
1. A strong background and experience in managing and troubleshooting infrastructure, cloud-based solutions and SaaS applications.
2. Can evidence good understanding of best practices and best security practices.
3. Effective communication skills.
4. A customer focused ethos to ensure customers receive the service required.
5. Good stakeholder management with the ability to contribute towards technical direction.
6. The ability to self-start and organise personal workload.
The successful candidate may have or be working towards any of the following qualifications (not essential):
1. Microsoft 365 Certified: Endpoint Administrator Associate
2. Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Administrator Associate
3. Microsoft Certified: Identity and Access Administrator Associate
4. Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals
