Role overview
As an Executry Paralegal, you’ll work with the Partners and Senior Managers to administer executries from initial meetings to conclusion and provide an excellent service to our clients.
Due to recent expansion, we are looking for an Executry Paralegal to join our team. Working within our Private Client Team in our Kelso Office, you will manage a caseload of executry files independently and undertake paralegal responsibilities as directed by Partners and Senior Managers.
The successful candidate may also have opportunities to deal with a wider range of Private Client service areas including, preparation of Wills and Powers of Attorney and the administration of Trusts.
Key Responsibilities
Within this role, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
* All aspects of estate administration from initial meeting to conclusion.
* Investigating assets forming part of the estate and gathering details of these.
* Preparing Confirmation applications and Inheritance Tax returns.
* Correspondence and communication with H M Revenue & Customs
* Knowledge of legal rights including calculations and experience of the issues that can arise with such claims.
* Preparing other relevant documentation, including Deeds of Variation.
* Conducting legal research as required.
* Handing correspondence and client related communications effectively, in person, over the phone and online.
* Demonstrating a good understanding of legal procedures including inheritance tax exemptions and reliefs.
* Maintaining strong client relationships and building good internal working relationships, advising colleagues with different specialisms.
* Operating the firm’s processes in relation to financial policies, time recording and AML compliance.
* Managing workload to ensure deadlines are met.
About You
* You’ll have previous experience working in a similar role and a Paralegal or SOLAS qualification (desired but not essential)
* You’ll be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing with effective organisational skills.
* You’ll demonstrate a high level of discretion and empathy when dealing with clients who are grieving or preparing for life events.
* You are self-motivated and hard working.
* You have strong IT and administration skills.
* You have the ability and motivation to work well in high pressure situations and to meet deadlines.
* You’ll be a confident team player who is willing to be flexible and help others.
* You are enthusiastic and will help to grow and develop the Private Client Team.
