The New Statesman is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Assistant Producer to join our growing podcast and video team. This is a dynamic, hands-on role for someone with a passion for current affairs and digital media who’s looking to build their skills and experience in a fast-paced, ideas-driven environment.
Reporting to the Executive Producer, you’ll support the production of the New Statesman’s award-winning podcasts and videos, contributing to everything from research and scripting to editing and promotion. You’ll be part of a team that’s expanding our digital reach and delivering compelling journalism across platforms.
Whether helping to record an interview on location, cutting a short for social media, or writing show notes and marketing copy, you’ll play an important part in how we bring our political and cultural coverage to life in audio and video.
Key responsibilities:
Content planning and production
* Assist with podcast and video episode planning, including research and guest booking
* Help write scripts, interview questions and production briefs
* Support studio and location recordings
* Edit basic audio and video content (training and development provided)
Publishing and promotion
* Edit and publish podcast episodes and video content across platforms
* Identify and clip engaging moments for social promotion
* Upload videos to YouTube and optimise titles, thumbnails and descriptions
* Schedule content using our CMS, podcast hosting tools and social platforms
Marketing and audience growth
* Help coordinate marketing and promotion activities, including social content and cross-promotion
* Draft episode descriptions, show notes and press copy
* Support guest and host promotional appearances
About you:
You’re a creative and detail-oriented producer who’s enthusiastic about podcasting, journalism and digital storytelling. You’re organised, eager to learn, and happy working both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
You’ll bring a mix of the following:
* Strong written and verbal communication
* Some experience writing scripts, briefs or digital content
* Basic audio editing skills (e.g. Adobe Audition or similar)
* Basic video editing experience (e.g. Adobe Premiere)
* Familiarity with digital and social platforms (YouTube, Instagram, X/Twitter, etc.)
* Understanding of the podcast landscape and a love of audio storytelling
* A keen interest in UK news, politics and culture
* Awareness of the New Statesman's tone and audience
Experience in a journalistic, media or production environment is a plus, but not essential – we’re looking for someone who’s curious, motivated and ready to grow.
This is a great opportunity to develop your skills and experience in a leading newsroom at the forefront of political and cultural journalism in the UK.
Company benefits:
* 25 days' holiday (plus bank holidays)
* Additional days off for your birthday, health and well-being day and volunteering day
* Subscription to NS publications and all other online content
* Access to a discounted shopping program
* Cycle to work scheme
* Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
* Enhanced company sick pay after probation
Note, this role offers hybrid working, working from home one day per week.
