Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council is committed to becoming the best planning authority in Hertfordshire. As part of this vision, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Planning Enforcement Officer.
You will enjoy the challenge of leading, and being part of, a dynamic team, with the opportunity to work in both an urban and rural environment. If you are interested in working in a high-performance authority that values and delivers high-quality development while seeking to enhance our New Town and Garden City environments, we want to hear from you.
We are looking to recruit a Principal Planning Enforcement Officer with enthusiasm to be part of the wider Development Management team. You will be responsible for the work of our planning enforcement team, investigating and monitoring alleged breaches of planning legislation relating to a variety of sites. In addition, you will lead and develop a small team of enforcement officers and be integral to ensuring processes are in place for the effective running of your team.
You will need to develop and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, applicants, agents, solicitors, and the wider community as part of providing an efficient and responsive customer-focused service.
You will have good communication and negotiation skills and be able to demonstrate methodical and well-organised working. It is essential that you have experience in enforcement and can work under pressure. You will have some experience in staff management and project management skills.
The ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential in this post.
Our CORE values – Collaborative, Open, Responsible, Excellent – guide everything we do.
We are located in Welwyn Garden City, just 25-30 minutes by train from London Kings Cross/St Pancras. Our offices are a 10-minute walk from Welwyn Garden City train station.
