Job Summary
The Port of Dover is a dynamic and exciting business which is constantly evolving. The Legal Department plays a crucial role throughout this journey, advising on a broad variety of legal issues as they arise.
Reporting to the Head of Legal & Risk, the Paralegal will provide support to ensure that routine work within the Legal Department is progressed in a timely and efficient manner while helping to develop improved internal processes for handling such matters.
Duties:
- Progressing the recovery of bad debts, including compiling evidence, producing letters before claim, initiating small claims, etc.
- Protecting the organisation and its subsidiaries position in respect of potential liabilities, e.g. through drafting disclaimers and indemnities, reviewing terms and conditions, etc.
- Defending claims made against the organisation and/or its subsidiaries relating to property damage and low value personal injury claims.
- Supporting the development of precedents through drafting templates and producing guidance notes for use by commercial colleagues as well as educating and upskilling colleagues on legal issues where appropriate.
- Identifying opportunities to improve workload management process.
This position will be on a 12 month fixed term contract
Skills and Qualifications
• Post Graduate Diploma in Law/Solicitor Qualifying exam or similar
• Comprehensive understanding of contract law, tort law, property law and liability issues
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office and all packages
• Previous Paralegal experience preferable
• Confident to run small files with supervision
