Since the start of the year, we’ve seen a noticeable increase in actuarial roles within the Portfolio space. Given that this area is still somewhat loosely defined, I wanted to share some context on what these roles typically involve—especially as we’re currently recruiting for several opportunities in this space.
In our world, these roles often sit within the pricing function and play a key role in leveraging data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making. The focus is on collaborating with various teams across the business—such as underwriting, exposure management, and capital modelling—to develop tools and frameworks that enhance underwriting performance and portfolio profitability.
The nature of these positions tends to blend both technical and commercial elements, offering exposure to analytics, portfolio strategy, and business planning. In some cases, there is also involvement with platforms like HX Renew and other technology solutions that help drive portfolio optimisation efforts.
Some of the common job titles we’re seeing in this space include:
- Actuarial Performance Manager
- Portfolio Analytics Manager
- Portfolio Optimisation Actuary
