The Opportunity
Our client is currently looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to build up CAD capability support within the Energy team. The department is entering an exciting phase of opportunity by supporting our key client's UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation, and by supporting new small modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling, and our capabilities are in demand across the nuclear sector.
Your Duties and Responsibilities
This role will involve the creation, modification, analysis, and optimisation of engineering design proposals. You will work to deliver innovative and practical design solutions that support small to large-scale engineering projects. Delivery of high-quality design work, focusing on mechanical components, piping layouts, P&IDs, electrical diagrams, civil, manufacturing drawings, and detailed 3D models. You will be interfacing with mechanical, process, electrical, and civil engineering teams. The role will be working within a team of designers to ensure consistency of high-quality outputs to clients with a “right first time” approach. This role involves managing multiple design tasks and ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with relevant codes and standards.
This role is based out of the North West - it is expected a minimum of 2 days per week at the Amentum offices in Warrington, Knutsford, or Manchester. Additional days for team collaboration and at client/supplier sites for projects as required.
Qualifications & Experience
1. Qualification to HNC/HND standard in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience).
2. Extensive experience in a regulated industry, particularly in design for assembly and manufacturing processes.
3. Advanced knowledge of BS 8888 and ASME B31.1, B31.3
4. Knowledge of electrical diagrams and schematics
5. Knowledge of civil structures
6. Awareness of how CAD supports structural analysis and flow simulation
7. High proficiency in Inventor, AutoCAD, and other CAD design software, including Inventor Vault.
8. Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.
9. Strong attention to detail and understanding of technical design standards.
10. Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The Setting for the Role
Risks and Hazards are in line with working on a nuclear licensed site. These can include nuclear fuel, radiation, chemicals and gases, high voltage equipment, moving vehicles, flammable materials, high pressure circuits, steam, high noise and vibration levels. A full site induction will be provided and all safety requirements must be adhered to when entering the site.
